Ferrari announced a different exhaust (Red Bull copy), front wing, and rear wing, and I noticed the floor is more contoured at the sides specifically in the area of the turning vanes and sidepods.

As I suspected, the Ferrari front wing is a tiny bit different with the third (top) wing element being a tad wider and the mini turning vanes on the endplates are a couple centimeters taller. The rear wing they have is said to be easier on the rear tires and the Red Bull style exhaust speaks for itself.

Red Bull has a new front wing and, while not a new rear wing design, the chassis structure of the wing (vertical plane) is slightly longer proceeding past the diffuser a bit. The front with is, like Ferrari, a very small change with the first element appearing slightly tucked under the second element. The below photo does not have a particularly good vantage point as the wing almost looks like a 2 element wing.

Red Bull ran a quick mid 1.22 run while Mclaren had an upper 1.22 run with Jenson Button ending the day by essentially telling the media they have come a ways but they will not be dicing at the front.

Anybody else think that the Ferrari livery looks more like a pack of Marlboros than any barcodes could...?

The contours on the floor at the sidepods is a neat idea. I bet we see more of that

I thought that the second I saw it.

McLaren are either playing a psychological game or actually in trouble, and it seems to lean toward the latter. I wonder how this testing will play out

I can see Mclaren and Mercedes having it out for third spot this year. That will definitely be a David and Goliath spectacle considering MB is literally the smallest car on the grid vs the Mclaren which is pretty much the most giant F1 car ever.

I love MS but also think Lewis is incredible. I don't know who I would route for that position, it's helped though by my dislike for McLaren :p

I dig Lewis as well. Wouldn't mind seeing him win another championship. I suspect Mcl and MB will be .3 behind the leaders.

A good head start is always nice but Ferrara and Mclaren can and will catch up IF they are now lagging.

Ferrari seem to be looking pretty good, probably number 2. Though Red Bull I would imagine would need to have a far superior car to even compete for a championship. If there are any teams as good or nearly as good as Red Bull I'd say RB is in trouble

I think you're being optimistic there. My bet that Toro Rosso will beat MB is probably also optimistic. The safer bet would be whether MB can beat Renault for 4th.

Think so? Yeah maybe. I'm sure Mcl is going to eyeball MB pretty heavy tomorrow, but then again who isn't?

Tomorrow is d-day for MB really. Brawn said their exhaust system alone is worth .6 seconds. If their 3 element front wing, sidepods, turning vanes, and barge boards are there and working well they will get their 1.000+ if they are lucky, and then they are in the game with the bigs up front. Tomorrow is IT

Between Petrov and Quick Nick I don't think Lotus Renault will net enough points to beat MB, I think Toro Rosso has the same problem. MB will be ahead of these teams by virtue of their drivers.

The driver argument is hard to counter, yup.

Petrov, Buemi and Alguersuari are more known for their spectacular crashes than for collecting points.

Well, like everybody else I'm just guessing. But what MB is doing is so radical at this late stage that they need luck on their side to pull it off. A similar comment could however be made for McLaren.

I'm not sure that tomorrow is judgement day as the tests will last several days. However it is rumored that each team will do a real qualifying test run at some point so the fastest times of the session(s) will matter.

I'm just hoping for stable weather conditions so we get a chance to compare the results from the days across.

    FORZA FERRARI!

MB is coming out with all their new toys in a 3 day process. So today we have some exhaust goodies and proper turning vanes on the sort of new sidepods. The sidepod intakes strake forward at the outer ends which is sort of interesting. The exhaust is pretty neato too. Brawn is stating their philosophy for exhausts is different than Red Bulls as RB obviously blows under the diffuser rather than channeled directly over.

The circle is I believe a starter hole and has nothing to do with exhaust.

Interesting to note that Webber's time yesterday is .9 off Kimi's lap record from '08 and over a second quicker than the fastest race lap last year. These cars might not be such turds after all.

It looks like they have two exhaust pipes judging by the soot all over the side of the car after the first hole. What is circled looks like another pipe.

It's another pipe but it's not exhaust. It's most likely the starter hole
