For the first time since I've had a small collection of cars, I've placed in a show.
Last Saturday 4/10, I entered all three Trans Ams (even though the 78 is no where near ready) into a "High Performance Pontiac" (Magazine) show and drag at Engishtown,NJ.
Eliminations were fun to watch but I didn't have the nerve to race the 78. I will next time though. Watched a 2000 T/A turn the 1/4 in the high 8 seconds at a 145 MPH. Couldn't believe it.

Anyway, I never thought about winning, I was there for the fun and the caravan down (I drove the 84, Linda drove the 2002 and my son the 78). My son heard my name come over the loud speakers as a winner in show. Third place in the third generation Trans Ams. My 15th Anniversary T/A came through. Really made my day.

    John,

Congrats! That's awesome! I bet that those P cars aren't as reliable as your 328 though. ;)

    Hey Gus, very funny.

If you have a few hours, I'll tell you a story about reliability in a 328. Still not working. I'm now on my third mechanic (Bruce's WWoC), picked it up and delivered it, still not running. They're going to pick it up again this week. One day we'll get to drive it. $7000 and counting on this problem.

BTW: Bruce mentioned we are to get together before you "leave for the coast". That would certainly be a great idea. I offered him my place to have it if he wanted a midpoint.

    John,

We should definitely get together! I probably won't move out there until early fall anyway. Let's plan something. I'm sorry to hear that the car isn't working. I hope they figure it out soon. What a nightmare! Keep in touch.

Hey John, sorry to hear about the 328 problem. I thought it would be fixed by now. Have they diagnose the problem?

Hi Dan, told Linda hello for you and she sends it back. Next time on the racing. I have a friend in the Montgomery police department and we're arranging to drag at the Princeton Airport. That's were I'll practice and not blow the engine. When I'm in competition, I usually go crazy and push it further then it should go. I can see me screaming by the 1/4 mile doing 9000 RPMs on a 78 Pontiac 400 engine. They'll be picking up piece of the engine in Washington, DC. Next time you should come down to Englshtown. It's alot of fun watching the time trial. TTYL (Keep on writing, wish I had you talent).

Hey Ken, how are you, said hello to the better half for Linda and I, hope you're both well.

Nobody knows what's up with it. It acts up they see it act up, take out the plugs, check it out, start it up and it runs fine. They keep it for two days and say it runs fine, send it back to me with a bill for $2000 and the next day. Still not running. Linda was so fed up with the money we spent, that she insisted I sell the car. Bruce intervened and stopped me and set me up with WWoC. They're first shot missed, but this time it only cost me $600 for nothing.

I believe it's the fuel pump and I should do it myself. The Trans Ams don't cost me much because one is new and the others I can take apart and put back together. I just know it's gas, somehow.

When I start it, it idles rough and if I give it gas it almost stalls and won't rev up. If I play with the peddle, I can get the rev up, but driving it, it is not right and backfires. go figure.

    Anyway, I'll let you know.

    John

I have that problem jumping back and forth between my 25th TA 6 spd, and the 308. So used to the 7800RPM redline I rev the cr*p out of that poor LT1.

Did you see Autoweek covered the Bandit TA last issue with specs and such in Escape Roads.

I had a guy make an offer on the 6spd in a parking lot last week and I'm thinking.....Hmmmmm, '76 glass 308, to match the '77 steel....."

    Congrats on the showing!

    John,

Well, the winter is over at least if you look at the calendar, but it was a though one to say the least and we still here :)

Sorry to hear about your 328, I was under impression that that problem was fixed and forgotten last year. WOW what a nightmare

Best wishes to you and your family,
    Oscar

John, maybe you should post the problem in the tech section and see what others say. $2k and not solving the problem is ridiculous IMO.

Morning Ken, I've put this on the tech section twice. No one came near the problem. I guess I could try again, maybe I will.

Actually the price was: (I won't mention mechanics)
first shop: $2400: new rotors and caps included

Second shop: first time in $2300 replaced the fuel filter and said that was the problem.
Second time in $2100, reset to run richer, checked the filter and replaced it again (1 month later) and charged me for it. Now it runs like sh*t and he says it's OK.

Third shop: These guys are good, they pick up and drop of for free. They called me up and told me that the last shop that worked on the car SWITCHED THE IGNITION WIRES!!!!!CROSSED WIRES ON THE PLUGS!!!! I couldn't believe that would be possible, mechanics 101. I had noticed that wires didn't fit correctly into the guides, but waited for this inspection. They charged me $600, but the problem was there when I went to drive it a few days later. They're picking up this Saturday again.

    Quite a history

OSCAR: sending you an email (if I can find your address), I'm not making the above up.

Speedy: The 25th T/A is a beauty, There was one at the show and it looked great. You can't possibly think of selling it. Good luck with it.

    regards
    John

Well, trying hard NOT to, mine is a fairly rare LT1 6 speed, only 128 built with the manual tranny that year.

I did not do well "saving" it though. Texas is a big place, and that baby's rolled 132,000 miles. The gf loves it though, Houston to Corpus for the Offshore speedboat races, full moon over Hallettsville, nothing to do but ROLL man!

OUCH!!! $7400 and problem still not solved? That is just not right (especially shop #2). What did they do for $4400?? You should do something about it.
I'm no mechanic, but have they tried replacing the spark plugs?
