Definitely agree about the Bangle flame-surfacing influence. Ferrari and Pininfarina traditionally used convex conic surfaces to great effect (see the rear haunches of the BB), but here we see concave surfaces above the crease lines in the door and an almost flat door side.

Like on the BMWs, it creates very sharp, distinctive character lines; unlike BMWs, the character lines on 458 are masterfully controlled and not the seemingly random creases all over some Bimmers.

Curiously, though, this is the first time I remember seeing a Ferrari, or any Pininfarina car, with a very American-like longitudinal crease in the hood. And the crease doesn't carry through to either the roof nor the rear deck. Strange.

About the lower side styling, I don't think they were trying to get a fake scoop look; it's just a stylish way of terminating the scalloped (or undercut) lower door area - a similar feature was used on the Honda HP-X show from from way back in '84. The scalloped lower door, along with the knife-edge skirt, looks to be done for aero reasons.

Ultimately, the car looks great - even the notoriously bad Ferrari studio shots (with requisite touch-ups) can't diminish its good looks - imagine what it will look like in the flesh.

Thanks, though there was no lack of spy shots to help figure this one out.

Alright Ive had a few days to step back and look at this fresh...

I like it more than I thought. I still have a problem with the intersecting arcs on the side (I have to agree it is a bit Bangleish) and I prefer four taillights...but this is certainly Ferraris best design since the F355 which is nice to see.

I dont mind the headlights as much as everyone else. They feel a little japanese but I can deal with them.

I really like the curves...something that has been missing from the brand for a long time. I think in person the car could be stunning.

    Still..its no 288GTO ;)

Mr. Napolis..... I just love your P4/P5... but do you think, the 458 Italia is missing something... like a very exotic side air scope similar to your P4/P5 or a 308? I still think Ferrari nailed the design of the 458. Just my 2 cents!

Such a blessing especially after seeing the California in person.

GT, I like that rear treatment (#285) and... a black top; also I'm not sure, what are those vents on top front fenders, besides the headlight ?
