I still want a 911 widebody in black. Almost bought one from Cannillo. Yeah, so my widebody 7 kinda looks like one. You just follow your heart.

With all those wings and flares, it looks like it was designed by the Lee Brothers:

Form follows function my friend! If you don't know about DP they were the ones who made the bodywork for the 935 racing cars. I've had the pleasure of driving one and they're planted at any speed over 100mph.

This is back when Porsche's used to turn heads. An argument many have brought up in this thread that very rarely happens anymore. In the early 80s a 930 was rare, a DP935 was something from another planet. Even when Porsche was offering slopenose 930s from their "special wish" department these were still rare cars. Body by DP and engine work by Kremmer.

Here's a few articles from a fellow Rennlister:
    Low Res: Here

    High Res: Here

There's also another DP for sale on Ebay. No reserve.

I haven't owned a Ferrari, but have driven several 3X8's. I have owned several Porsches from a 944T to a 911 and everything in between.

The Porsche is a "refined" sports car; pleaty quick, decent handling, good looks, and good reliability.

The Ferrari on the other hand is a "true" sports car. It's raw, uncomfortable, so so realiablity, but with looks that can stop traffic.

I'm more of a show guy then a go guy, and all I can say is when I used to go out to the city with my buddy, and I was in the Porsche and he was in the Ferrari, I got "nice car" where my buddy got "NICE CAR".

    Ferrari.....It's not just a car; it's a lifestyle.....Ok I'm starting to babble.

I recently bought a '69 Porsche 912 from a co-worker for $400. Vandals had broken out all the windows and the motor is of unknown condition. I wish it were a '69 Ferrari instead.

I would think a lot things to be true, logically speaking, but that doesn't make them so. I owned a GT2 for three months and Porsche purchased it back from me because of all sorts of issues, from cosmetic to major.

Maybe the 997 cars are improved. I would think so...

as for people whom are solely performance oriented and speak of cheap maintenance using that logic why not buy a new Zo6 which will smoke every street legal Porsche with the exception of the cgt and hardly have anything to maintain. I think it’s a mental thing that people in Porsches feel like they are the big dogs until they run into an f-car so they have to rationalize. if speed was the sole factor with 10K you turn a mustang faster than an Enzo or the cgt. The sole presence of so many P-car fanatics on this site is proof positive its not really speed they are after but climbing up one notch on the hierarchy of luxury sports cars. Why else would so many care about comparison of f to p cars on this primarily f-car site?

I understand the bond between man and machine but people sometimes become so loyal to a brand name it reminds me of father talking about his kids, which in his eyes can do no wrong. I too am guilty of that to a certain extent.

Tony91505: Tony, sorry to disagree, there are some people here who have owned both, and then some, and do not necessarily think that everything coming from Maranello is better, or a "step up." You are correct about the Ferrari having the more 'exotic' image, but that only goes so far, at least in the "modern" era (as distinguished from the truly vintage era, where even a less desirable Ferrari in its day, eg a PF Coupe, a 275 GTS or to some extent, even a Lusso, is now highly regarded). I would probably choose a new Z06 over any number of modern Ferraris because the "image" can only take you so far. Truth be told, after a pair of 550's, i bought a GT2, simply because there was no current production Ferrari (exclude the Enzo for any number of reasons) that was of interest. Did i do that because i needed to climb down a notch? Right now i am driving a 6.0 Diablo. Far more interesting to me than any number of modern production Ferraris. Did i step up a notch? Knowing that i could have my choice, it doesn't really matter. In a year, it may be something else. (I actually like the C GT). So who is myopic?

Don't read too much into where the cars rank, that's just what the marketing guys want.

Buy what makes you happy and you'll come out ahead.

Whart you seem to be the exception as opposed to the rule with regard to exploring the entire spectrum and getting to the edge where there exists nothing beyond and then going back to the basics. Also by the virtue of your own remarks "I would probably choose a new Z06 over any number of modern Ferraris because the "image" can only take you so far." you would be one of few people with a Zo6 as their primary sports car that could afford anything they wanted. Of course this is just my opinion based on episodic impressions I have gotten and I could certainly be wrong so please correct me if I am. I believe my last post also acknowledged that I too was biased at times. As far as myopia goes I don’t feel like getting into a pissing contest with you over this issue but clearly in my mind you do not truly represent what you are trying to defend. It seems like your post dictates that majority of p-car owners could drive any car they wanted. Although I do respect your opinion I certainly do not share it.

Tony- It's all good. Not pissing. You articulated your position quite well. I'd love to have an old Morgan, and maybe a new Elise, too. (One guy i know has a huge collection, and loves his vette, but perhaps it's because he knows he could have anything; nonetheless, when you take 'mystique' out of the equation, we could all be driving chevies). Regards.

The 911 bears a striking resemble with the VB Beetle? The 911 has kinda always had its look. Alot of cars look alook. I agree, Porsche is NOT a Ferrari, Lambo. Porsche is the new Mercedes-Benz (before they went downmarket). It's the new daily driver 'status" car. As for the numbers of Porsche, they need to make money. However, it's not like they are pumping them out left and right. Personally, they are making more cars, with more lines. But remember, people have more money, or more "access to credit". And, Porsche isn't going downmarket like MB, BMW, ect. You see 20:1 Porsches to every Ferrari I take it? That sounds right, and the way it should be. You can buy two/three Porsches for a Ferrari. Ferrari has a differnet business plan.

Personally, I love Porsches (well, expect the SUV-which is still kinda has mixed feelings in terms of looks) and Ferraris. If a person can buy a new 911, they prolly can afford a Ferrari.
