Well, after 8 months of exploration, effort, negotiation, bureaucracy, and waiting (and waiting, and waiting…) today was the day I finally took delivery of this remarkable 1974 Verde Germoglio Dino 308 GT4, after its long ocean journey from Bremerhaven, Germany to Charleston, South Carolina.

The story is long, and I was tempted to blog it here as it unfolded, but superstition led me to keep mum until the car was fully imported, titled, and delivered in one piece…and today marked that day.

There’s a lot to tell, but for now, I must give special thanks to some very special FChatters:

1.) Matthias Bartz, who spoke of the existence of this rare specimen over dinner in Düsseldorf in March, a mention that ignited the search.

2.) Glenn Butler, my friend and traveling companion to Techno Classica Essen, who introduced me to Matthias, and subsequently helped at every single stage of this drawn out process, from discovery to negotiation to delivery.

3.) Sean, Mike and Peter at Automotive International here in Charlotte, who are providing a night’s restful “recharge” after a long journey, to be followed by a thorough post-purchase inspection.

Call me crazy but I think the Bertone design of the GT4 is better suited to these unique and stunning colors then Ferrari red. Prugna is another color that really pops on it.

    Beautiful unicorn you found.

Different wheels and mirrors, but those things do just bolt on. And how many of these are there in Germany anyway?

There‘s only one 308 GT4 originally supplied in Verde Germoglio in German ownership at this moment, to the best of my knowledge.

The previous owner’s decision to repaint your example from blue was actually inspired by that one.

The original Azzurro Metallizzato 106-A-32 is a great color for that car. Unfortunately the former owner did not bring the car back to its original specs.. But maybe you will do it sometimes in the future.
