Finally got my F355 today, 1997 Grigio Titanio Berlinetta with Tan Interior 13,775 miles....as pristine as it gets, what a blast to drive! Thanks for everyone's help!

One question.....I KNOW this has been discussed countless times....Should I get the recessed factory fender shields and spend $5000.00 to have it custom installed, and have them respray my fender and door to blend?.....or just leave it alone??? I kinda don't want to touch the factory paint. But the factory shields look sooo much better than the plastic ones on the car right now.....WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK??!!

Oh, and am I only supposed to use SHELL gasoline, or can I use Chevron, Mobile, etc....?

Here's me with a dumb grin......

Congratulations your new 355 looks fantastic. As to your question regarding shields, my view is leave the car as it was produced and save the money as there are people out there who will not buy a ferrari that is not stock. Save your money for the servicing and just put the stick on shields on. My 2c worth great car years of enjoyment ahead regards Tony

Congrats -- it's a beauty! Enjoy it in good health.

Lose the shields -- Ferraris look much cleaner without them -- especially if they're the cheesy stick-ons! Obviously, it's strictly personal preference, but you did ask...

Edit: regarding the fuel -- just use the cheapest high volume retailer you can find. fwiw, I use Costco for my 360 and never have any problems (and I go through a LOT of fuel!).

If you want shields just leave what you've got. That way you can get rid of them if you choose. There are thin cloisone' ones if you want a better quality look. I use the Shell V-Power. I don't think it matters too much.

Way to go man! I've had my eye on that car forever... wish it would have ended up in my driveway, but no biggie ;) I'll get around to it eventually...... As for the shields, I'd have to toss the fake ones. I've yet to see a set that looked right.

  6. Post more pictures, I say leave it stock and use that money for test pipes and tubi exaust or Gruppe M intake.

I'd take off the plastic ones and then just leave it alone.

    Congratulations!

Congrats! Bring it down to Crystal Cove once & meet the So Cal crew! :)

I know Jay on this board (Throttleman) makes it down from there once in a while & is a very worthy co-pilot. :)

Can the stick on emblems be affected by sun, and leave marks when removed?

Ed, Absolutely beautiful!! Personally I would pass on the faux shields. If you can't live without them I would contact Dave at Premier in Culver City. After his magic no one would ever know! Oh, and now you can edit your profile!

good news and a beautiful car. I have the same color and it is one of my favorites. I would, as others have suggested, not waste the 5k on shields, plus even if the job is great, the paintwork is problematic at resale time.
Enjoy your new ride, and I suspect the grin will last a looonnng time! John

Thanks for all the compliments/advice guys....I really like the shields but don't want to touch the factory paint if I don't really need to, so....I think I'll get some high quality metal/enamel replicas, at least they'll look better than the plastic ones currently installed on the car...

Any advice for removing the plastic shields? It's on there with double side tape.

Congrats on the car! With regard to removing the existing shields, you might want to try dental floss. I read a few years back on the Boxster boards that this works for the emblem on the rear trunk lid (the emblem is attached with double sided tape), so I suspect it would work for the shields.

Did you look at all at the Canna de Fucile car? If so, what were your thoughts.

    Good luck,

    Joe

I would try the dental floss method first. Just try passing a length of dental floss under the shield -- you might have to saw it back and forth slightly.

If that doesn't work, you might try warming the shield with a hair dryer on low first, then on high if necessary to soften the adhesive.

It'll be interesting to see whether the shields discolored the paint (differential fading). Do you have any idea how long they've been on the car?

Didn't want to take the trip up to San Francisco to see the car. I was looking for a color that shows off the large Intake Scoops, so the Fucile color was a little too dark.....it looked nice on pics though.

I think the plastic shields have been on the car for about 2 years...but the owner only drove the car about 2,000.00 miles, I'll let you guys know if there's any discoloration.

I have a company that retrieves Enterprise Zone Tax Credits for businesses located in the California Enterprise Zone.....so if ur business is in an Enterprise Zone, let me know!!! :)

Great looking car. Leave the shields alone. Spending 5k to get the factory type shields is an absolute waste of money. Spent it on a Tubi.

Ed, your car is truly stunning! 355s are some of the most prettiest cars around. About the shields: take the ones that are on it right now (as you mentioned) off and leave it that way. 5,000 dollars spending on that is a waste. Good luck with the car!

Spend your money on maintenance and stuff like exhausts, braking and suspension.

It looks great as it is.

Ed, I would try warming the shields with a hair dryer or heat gun, (be gentle though) then pass dental floss under them tight to the fender. Then goo be gone to finish, followed by a good paint cleanser/polish.
