After EXTENSIVE mods to every aspect of the car it's off to paint :)

every panel has been changed, as well as engine/trans/suspension/even switched to RHD...
There's two pics of it heading down the road here:

    http://members.core.com/~sysadmin/GTO-2paint2.jpg
and a couple before and after views. keep in mind the "after" shots are before paint - it will look a lot better in a few days :)

it looks so different than it did last year..
and with twice as many cylinders and almost three times the power, lower center of gravity etc.. it should have a completely different charactor

Why move me to this category? I know we have had discussions of less accurate rebodies in this thread even in the last 2 weeks. In the last month we have discussed this car in the vintage category.
I have seen it discussed many times that with the better ones it would be fitting to be in the category of what it looks like

It's not about accuracy or inaccuracy. The fact is that it's not a vintage Ferrari discussion. A thread about the conversion of your Lusso to a GTO replica would belong in the Vintage Ferrari discussion forum, for example.

Threads about modified Fieros, Datsuns, etc belong here in Cars, Motorcycles, etc.

Rebodies of Ferraris or of other cars? I know I would have moved any thread in the Vintage section that was about another make rebodied to look like a Ferrari.

    Chelle,

Regardless of what section this is in - I think it will look great when she's / He's done... :)

Can't wait to see the final product... You have to be satisfied with all the hard work so far...

    Replied privately Wayne.
Thanx for the quick reply even if I disagree.
Will we be retroactively moving the rest tonight? ;)

Have to say here on the point of "modified datsun" it once was - however there is about 20% datsun left. Everything from the firewall forward is new and either handmade by us ( I made the firewall from $65 worth of aluminum), or from various manufacturers, behind the firewall the windshield, 1/3rd of the roof, 60% of the floor and parts of the rear suspension are datsun. Everything inside the car is handmade including the dash or racing parts purchased from various sources. Some are Ferrari parts, the drysump tank is from a nascar car, some are new racing pieces.
To me and the DMV it's not a datsun anymore..

    Rich, thanx
I use female pronouns referring to the car hmm, and I love it - hope that doesn't make me a lesbian lol
We are really excited at the progress.. and looking forward to wiring up the computer and getting it running next week

Yep even if you made the whole car yourself ... it isn't a Ferrari, it is a Chelle ;), and may even be superior!

Now I'm having a look at the photos :) ... looking good, but I think the wheels have to go, they are (to me) completely different to the correct wires ... this was supposed to be a constructive comment BTW :).

how about the wood F50 boat? shouldn't that be posted here rather than the ferrari section every time someone reposts it?
the minitruck with testarossa style flanks?

this will be the last i whine about it - not trying to undermine the moderators trying to do their thankless task, but there were 63 threads in the vintage section since the first of the year that referred to various replicas that did not get moved... some bad, some good. some were links to auctions or replicas for sale. In one of those threads a couple of our cars were discussed and considering the number of people who wrote to me after seeing that in the "GTO in the wild" thread I thought posting a couple links to pics showing the progress on the car would be well received. Instead several people ran crying to the moderators and without a word I was dumped in between airplane and range rover discussions. Sorry but I felt a little singled out. Fine, move the thread about a tribute to the GTO to off topic cars, boats and planes, but a two sentance pm would have been nice. Even nicer would be uniform enforcement.

    Hiya Pete :)
I know - others have suggested that too - it needs wires though - and we like these :) and besides - it's supposed to be a tribute to the GTO with modern performance and safety, and even a few comfort items :) as accurate as we could create the body - but just slightly refined in a few subtle ways :)

I know I said I'd shut up - the two examples I quoted were in general section, the 63 others since the beginning of the year I referred to are, as I stated, in the vintage section.

I wasn't selling anything and didn't even use the word ferrari in my post - I just said the car (which has been previously mentioned by others before me in the vintage section) was finally off to paint.

sorry I made someone cry, but I thought we were adults here. I forgot the cardinal rules of internet messageboards as illustrated below:

How many message board posters does it take to change a light bulb?

1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed.

11 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently.

9 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs.

3 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs.

12 to flame the spell checkers.

    4 to correct spelling/grammar flames.

16 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb".

    4 to condemn those 16 as anal-retentive.

2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is "lamp".

27 to post URL's where one can see examples of different light bulbs.

14 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URL's.

10 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy.

5 to suggest that posters request the light bulb FAQ.

41 to ask what is a "FAQ".

6 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"

13 to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs".

You forgot to add this to the posting rules:

Owners of replica light bulbs bleating endlessly on and on about injustices meted upon them by forum moderators.

for being so against replicar threads you sure are wasting a lot of time in this one ... guess we figured out who the crybaby was who went running to the moderators

We have several real and one replica. I post here because I enjoy the cars and much of the community. I posted today to share my happiness with those who might like to know why I am happy today.

I'm not here for your approval ..
post pics and make fun of people you don't know like some 12 year old boy troll - I won't play with you ...
I hope you find real happiness someday without having to try to rain on others day
Have a nice weekend, I most certainly will
I'm young, blonde and don't waste emotional energy trying to make a crybaby happy by pretending to be hurt by his words.
In order to be affected by insults one must have some respect for their source.

Thanx to those here who posted pleasant thoughts :)

So much melodrama. I am not at all against threads pertaining to replicars. The fact that I think 99% of them are carbage doesn’t mean that I think people shouldn’t make posts about them in the pertinent forums.

The fact that this thread contains a replica isn’t of concern. I wouldn’t have even noticed it if you didn’t cry like heck that it got moved from a forum that it didn’t belong in…that I get to rail against craplicars isn’t my point; it’s a bonus.

Let me clarify the fact that I do enjoy a vehicle that has been replicated in a manner that is faithful to the original. I admire the dedication and passion that someone applies to reproducing a vehicle that is fantastically rare, historically significant or is no longer extant.

I enjoy replicas so long as they do not bear markings that belong to the original manufacturer. Putting SF shields on a Datsun that looks like a GTO is offensive. To claim that doing so pays homage to the marque is misleading at best. Leave the trademarks off the vehicle and let the vehicle speak for itself, I say.

And I would ***** just as loud and long if someone came out with a body kit for 70’s Vettes that looked like 240Z’s. Or vice versa.
