    drive the 512.
after 7 years of ferrari ownership, and 5 years with the 512, something came over me this morning and i thought, in case of any emergency, the wife should know the ins and outs of the beast.
so we went out and went through the paces. no parking though, that might happen next time, but without power steering its pretty hard physical labor.

she did alright. not very smoothe and lots of jerking around, but it got better. the only problem now is that she really enjoyed the power and the looks, and now she wants one for herself ! will have to hide the keys now when i travel ;)

My wife does not have much interest in driving a stick...and if she did, I would not teach her on a $2500 clutch. I usually frisk her before she gets in my 308, to make sure she has no sharp objects, pens or makeup in her pocket. Now that she is getting ready to give birth, she's not permitted to even get in the car to go for a ride. Can you imagine her water breaking while we're out for a ride...I'de have to kick her out and leave her on the side of the road while I go get the car detailed. Then I would come back and pick her up in a regular car :)

If I were her & you never let me drive, you would be sleeping in a 512.

My wife drove the 365 for the first time while I was out of town and I had to tell her how to get it started over the phone.

She drove the Mondial before I even saw the car.

My wife has never driven my 456M GT after
2+ years of ownership. She really doesn't
like the car, says she, "it has no cup holder"
or other comforts as found in her Cadillac,
    like all these "satellite gizmos".
Nonetheless, before we met she actually
ran Porsches on tracks in her old Porcshe
Club in the ' 80s. She could easily get
behind the wheel of my Ferrari, have a
    track "flash-back", and--KA-BLAM-OH!
So, herein lies my reluctance, though she
doesn't really care about the Ferrari, anyway.
    C'est la Vie!
    Bye for now!

I was smitten "avec amour" more than bothered
    about "cup-holder" comments.

lmao i love this wife stuff... i am the wife, and i probably drive our cars better than him!! (Ok thats not true and he'd kill me if he heard me but ill keep up with the best of them!)
Its so much fun, driving... i dont understand these "wives" that can't/dont drive stick... never mind NOT WANTING to drive a car with a horse on the hood, porsche or ferrari...
Its ludicrous.... If someone tossed me the keys to ANYTHING with more horsepower and performance than my diesel jetta id be all over it like a fat kid on a smartie.

Edited to add-for example, and i think i can tell this story here because it will be appreciated... Last week i was showing a Touareg SUV to a client of mine who had JUST picked up a brand new SL500 (not my cup of tea but still a damn nice car) We got talking about being enthusiasts (he was surprised to hear that this young woman in the car beside him was more than a ditzy sales woman and had a 924s parked int he garage at home) and by the time we got back to the office, i was set to at least look at it, and hear it...he indicated to me that the car had fully customized exhaust cat back, and was chipped... so at close to (if not over) 400hp stock, i had to see what a chip would do. I asked him to take me for a ride... so we did... and we werent even out of second gear yet (unfortunately in the ony available transmission, an Auto shiftronic or whatever Mercedes called it, the main reason i would never buy one...) and under my breath, i was like "oh my god i wanna drive it" and he heard me say it, and was pulled over and shoving me in the drivers seat before i could say no... it was pretty responsive, handled ok, but i was not a fan of the transmission and now that i saw that one, im starting to see them EVERYWHERE....

Jessica - thanks for sharing your story and glad
to know you live just north of me, across the
    border.
To wrap this up I will say my wife's sense-of-direction
    is far better than mine ever was or ever will be;
nonetheless, when it comes to driving and talking
on a cellular phone simultaneosly she is "textbook".
This can never happen behind the wheel of a
Ferrari, as a matter of protocol.

well my wife may not be the fastest driver around, but fairly competent. she has driven all my cars at one point or another, some more regularly than others, she drove the 928s4 and the 930 for years - you have to have at least one other person to help you out sometimes. the reason i have taken so long with the ferraris is because they are pretty difficult in tight places and i never seem to have enough parking space....)

(although i hear you all about the clutch, which is why the orginal training was done on an ancient golf about 20 years ago.....right after she murdered the clutch on the mg.....)

And what are those who secretly are dying to own a Ferrari but can't (for whatever reason). and who ridicule the owners of Ferraris trying to compensate for .... a complete lack of any weenie small or otherwise???????

Too bad, this started out as an interesting thread before degenerating into GenitalChat.

Most girls I know don't have much interest in driving anything that requires the involvement of a Ferrari. One of the women in my cul-de-sac had a mint Alfa Spider - one of the last ones - a year or so ago, and I thought it was cool that she drove it. (It wasn't her husband's car - she was single.)

Maybe the Danica Patrick media blip will change things a bit. Unfortunately, manual gearboxes aren't all that common, and gated shifters are pretty exotic stuff, so more women (and men) miss out on that part of the driving experience.

I took my wife to Skip Barber. You should have seen the grin on her face when she got out of the Viper. And she is now safer when piloting the kids around, too. Sign your wives up for track school !
(Ok, fine...half of them would really prefer a spa or a shopping spree, but then we did do that after the school...)

At the recent Barrett-Jackson Auction in West Palm Beach, FL Skip Barber had a little stand...they had a viper and an open wheel car. My wife showed ZERO interest...I even asked if it was something she would want to do...she looked at me like I had 10 heads.

She really has no interest in driving my 308 either. After all, she has a Dodge Magnum with a HEMI!! Faster than the 308 and holds groceries and Macy's bags (oh yeh, and a child seat).

    my mistake !!

next time i will put a half dozen smiley faces so you know it is sarcasm. i have a 360, upgraded from a 355. then i have other exotics outside the Ferrari family. and no my weewee is not little

seriously, though, let the ladies drive the car if you want, but it really sucks. my wife drove the 360 today. Maybe she read this thread or something, but she said she is tired being the passenger. well, i hate being the passenger too.

Fortunately the F1 comes with the "auto" mode for girls. now if i can find the patience to teach her to angle the car over bumps and driveways so she stops scraping the bottom of the car ...
