Well, the '65 is finally in the stable. Here they are, keeping each other good company... Cheers, Aaron Image Unavailable, Please Login
I am insanely jealous. Beautiful cars! For several years now I have planned on getting a 355 as my next car, and thought nothing could shake me from that plan. But I find myself being pulled more and more towards an E-type, specifically a series 1 coupe. I end up looking at every car for sale on ebay, have bought several books, stare slack-jawed at every picture I come across, etc. Both cars are on my lifetime short list, and both would probably be permanent keepers, so it is not really as much an either-or proposition with the 355 as much as it is a matter of which one to buy first. If nothing else, I figure E-types are generally appreciating in price while 355's are generally depreciating, so it would be smarter to buy the E-type now and 355 say next year. Long story short, its pretty much full speed ahead for an E-type around my house! I am curious as to your driving impressions between your S1 and S2....how much of a difference is there in the overall feel of the cars?
Now is the time to get an S1 coupe. I plucked mine about 6 years ago, and my mechanic (who has done many concours-quality Jags) said they are appreciating. Hard to match what an E brings to the table. Granted, they aren't going to out perform a 355, but probably akin to a 308 - not bad for a 40+ year old car. One of my long standing dreams has been to own a Ferrari - and I will yet one day own one. However, the opportunity for me to own the E-Type was just too good to pass up.
Well, I have yet to actually drive the S1. I bought it as a stalled restoration. The gem of that car is the engine; it has been built to mild race spec with Venolia high compression pistons, a potted and gas flowed head, Cometic gaskets and high lift cams from Rob Beere Racing in England. I've degreed the cams, now I need to figure out if I'm keeping the SUs or going with triple Webers. Once it's back on the road, I'll be sure to give you a running report! Cheers, Aaron
