Suggesting that the Monday after a race weekend is a testing day. http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en/headlines/news/detail/091011141911.shtml
It's an interesting idea. Hopefully the cars will be in good shape after the weekend's racing... if there are any incidents it might mean a hurried reconstruction by the team so that the youngsters can get their laps in on the Monday. Maybe this idea combined with permitting a third vehicle for use as a 'test car' would be a good move. All the best, Andrew.
I like the idea of a monday drive for testing and a chance for young drivers to experience the real F1 track. More money could be made if the fans were allowed in to... CH
I don't see why not?? The vendors would still be in the area. so you would have food, souvenirs, Etc. available to the spectators plus the motels Etc could make a few more $ off of the race weekend. Everyone wins The teams get a chance to test new items, young drivers can learn the sport, the spectators get to enjoy an extra day of the sights and sounds of F1.
Nice idea, but won't work with races only one week apart, especially as Bernie keeps adding tracks. Teams are struggling to bring their equipment from A to B anyway within that timeframe, one day less makes it completely impossible.
Tomorrow he'll announce that with the additional Monday effort, all Sunday events including the race will be cancelled to save costs
Right. All races will be held on X-Box. Actual cars will be used only in practice to establish performance parameters.
Monday testing? It would be good for bringing up young drivers particularly at tracks they may not know. But as I understand it this would be more than just flying new bits and a test driver in on Monday. Some of the big teams litteraly have dozens of people who make up their testing staff. Advantage: big teams
thursday would make more sense. what good is testing on a track you just ran on? move equipment to the next track and testing on thursday would provide a lot of info to get race ready also it would help to rubber in the track.
No. I think Monday makes more sense. I didn't like it when the teams would spend hours pounding around a track and then have a race there as they had so much information from the test that the racing would suffer. I think the idea of testing on a Monday is great. They could charge a small fee for spectators and it would be opportunity for everyone to see F1 cars if you can't afford to go to a race. It also gives those attending a race the option of staying an extra day to watch the test which would help to ease the traffic problems at some tracks as everyone tries to leave on Sunday evening.
Sounds logical but somehow it feels a bit weird - maybe its because of the fixation to the fact that the race culminates the weekend.
he's already accomplished this with his changing the date of the monaco f1 race for the total waste of the Turkish gp. Seems he needs lessons in scheduling events. Not only did his hose hit the fans, it also clogged-up, as the Monaco merchants' stores are closed on the practice day with his schedule change Carol
While you may be correct, The big thing is for the teams that do not want to test at that race they are not behind the 8 ball if the testing happens on lets say Thursday. On top of that testing can be quite boring with a car on the track for a bit then back in the garage for hours, only to come back out for 15 mins.
