Does anyone think it's possible to find a blackberry with a metal detector in 8-12 inches of snow?

My wife lost hers while sledding.

She went and got a new I-Phone so she's back in business, but I thought for shXX's and giggles, I might go and try and find the old one.....

Ive never used a metal detector so i can't say how well that might work. Personally id want to find the old one, so some complete stranger can't retrieve personal data -- for a peace of mind.

I have no experience with metal detectors and snow, but the battery has a few different kinds of metals in it so you should have a decent shot.

Exatcly why I think I should try. We run an Assisted Living type business and there could be some doctor/patient info, medication stuff, etc....

Ironically, our business is called "Peace of Mind" =)

When the snow melts in the srping it has a chance to make it's way into a small creek, and even the melting snow should render it completely dead but I think I'll try at least once to find it.

if you have another blackberry just go to the store and see if the detector will work from 8 inches away on that one...there probably isn't enough metal in the phone but I guess it's worth a shot

It'll certainly set of a magnetometer so I'd imagine that a decent metal detector will pick it up.

It sure will. I just tried it from up to a foot away, but not in the snow. No snow here in Atlanta.
