These are the ones you see in the pic from 82 that I am trying to replicate with the Gallo speakers. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks Dr Tommy. I was looking for those globe Blaupunkts on fleabay also and planned to put in some new elements in them but then found the Gallos. Had them in my Bertone coupé in the eighties and they were very good speakers in those days. My 308 also has the small 80:s Blaupunkt tweeters on the dash ends, had those in my -84 GTV6 so they are period correct. ///TRS
Here is one. 100% period correct for your 79. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Blaupunkt-CR-2001-Car-Radio-Stereo-Cassette-Porsche-911-914-BMW-Mercedes-OEM/163430436672?epid=1025222024&hash=item260d368f40:g2IAAOSwiOZcEvjA:rk:1f:1&frcectupt=true
No problem. I found the old thread where I mentioned this unit and Magnum's 79 308 from the first couple of seasons. I took the picture from the TV. Post #7. That unit on ebay is this one. It even has the green button like the one on TV (some of the 2001 had a black button for some reason) https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/whats-your-o-e-stock-radio-cassette-player-in-79-308gtb.467243/#post-143514471
The plot thickens. The factory did not install a stereo at all, and the dealers did? I apologize for my naïveté- I am SO new to this car. It’s a little tiny bit different from my split window. So, a period-appropriate stereo is considered “correct,” then?
The factory put some in very early in the production run but soon after just pre-wired the cars for the dealers to fool with doing it. What they put in was up to them or the customer I suppose but it seems Blaupunkt was a popular choice. The CR 2001 was used by dealers in the late 70's so it certainly would be "period" correct. Same with the CR 3001 from 80-82 and a Blaupunkt Aspen would be "correct" for an 83 or 84.
I wouldn't get too caught up with the brand. As long as it's period correct, that's all you need. I have an early 80's Alpine in my 1983 QV and won a Platino and Coppa Bella Macchina at an FCA show last year.
One data point. My dad bought this ‘81 GTSi in ‘85. It came with this very poor quality Sanyo. Matt Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yeah, my 1983 QV has a Sony Xplod CDX-M750 installed. Not my doing and it never gets powered up. In the paperwork/manuals that came with the car there is the Operating Instructions for a Blaupunkt Houston.
Got now my Gallos mounted. Had all the panels out anyway so drilled 3 M4 rivet nuts in the speaker bodies and have no visible brackets. Some Locktite on the screws so they don't loosen from vibrations. Good sound when in that mood even if you cannot expect any HIFI experience driving a Ferrari W/O roof. ///TRS Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Speaking of period-correct Blaupunks, I installed this device in my 1982 Maserati Quattroporte III and it's really good: Blaupunkt Bremen SQR 46 DAB. It is a modern reproduction of the Blaupunkt Bremen SQR 46, introduced in 1986, with modern amenities (USB, Bluetooth, aux jack, etc.). The façade is entirely identical to the original model. Here is a review I did when I received the radio: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/1005494-new-blaupunkt-black-radio-avail-2018-a-6.html
If I had the know how, I would start a side business rebuilding these old school period correct radios with modern digital guts. Make them modern with absolutely no indication of it on the outside.
