I know this is a shot in the dark, but I'm thinking about taking my political career to the tropics froa couple of years. I just finished my Master in Political Science and I am currently going on 1.5 years working for Gov. Bush. But now I think I might like to try something completey off the wall. I think I'd like to try working in Government in the USVI.

It's a completely fascinating political system to me, as they have to petition the US Congress to change things in their charter for them, etc. Right now I'm trying to find any e-mail addresses of the 15 Senators down there. All I can find are phone numbers and fax numbers. I might just call down there and try to speak to one of them. I figure this would be an opportunity like no other for me. It may be a wild goose chase, but like I always say, you never know until you try it.

Anybody know anyone down there? Is it considered an international call down there? Thanks!

I saw a news magazine story once about the Virgin Islands and how bad the crime was down there. St. Thomas was mentioned specifically concerning the rampant gang and crime problem. The US Navy even put St. Thomas off limits for a while because the crime was so bad.

FWIW, I too looked into working there a few months back and gave up as I kep coming across articles stating how bad the crime was.

If you're keen, my advice would be to call them on the number you have.

    All the best

If this is what you want to do just follow your dreams. Why not take a trip there and see what's up? A quick google search would have to set you straight with contacts etc. Good luck.

Yeah the more and more I research the more it seems that it is a gang warfare state down there unless you have a ton of money. Then you are the target.
