Maybe some who is romantically involved with the loan officer! Also reference my profile and history, I've owned over 150 exotics and can count on 1 hand how many I have lost money on! A 360 was one of the best selling Ferraris and over 4,000 are out there! If I'm not getting a good deal I'm not getting it and that's why 99% of the time I don't lose money on the cars I get into. As far as the 5% buyers fee I would pay that for some rare exotic or impossible to get muscle car (L88 1967 Vette if you know of 1) but not a 360. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'm good with the outcome; I think both sides did well. I spoke to the buyer that evening and he seems like a really good guy and happy how it turned out. For the record, it did crack $100k with the fees which is fair to include since that is the true cost of acquiring the car. Just based on the last minute bidding war that broke out, I did start to think it could go a fair bit higher. I've sold multiple cars at Gooding and Russo & Steele in Monterey. Honestly, I will probably list with BaT every time from here on out.
Why ***** about bat here? Go there and ***** or don't buy from them. Plenty of auctions have a buyer fee, how else and why would they be in it if not to make money. You want it for free?
Exactly. This thread reminds me of past summers when someone would observe the F-chat chatter and conclude "school must be out"
I enjoy BAT, and the dialogue that goes along with each car I have bid on a couple of them, but didn't buy anything, have found prices get hyped higher then the other sites for the buyer..good place to sell though..just my 2c..
But the fee maxes out at $5k, so for the above mentioned cars, and others that I have seen sold on Bat, the actual percentage fee is much lower.
I e-mailed them with photos, year, miles, condition, etc. and stated what I thought a reasonable (realistic) reserve would be and they came back at me with a reserve more than 20% lower. I asked to negotiate and they barely moved - they were willing to raise the reserve by $1000 on a $50K+ car. I respectfully declined the listing.
Tony. Did you bring examples to the table? I did this for the Rolls Silver Wraith I helped sell for my friend. They wanted a reserve of $35K. I told them, that's not realistic when every other example is over $75K I asked for $45K, and with better photos, they agreed. Stand your ground though.
I agree, for the seller reserve could be better. In my experience- I wanted a 12k reserve on an 89 4runner. They wanted 8k. We settled on 10 and it sold for 14. They wouldn't take my 993 for over low 30's reserve. I traded it in for low 40's. Wouldn't take my 57 Eldo Brougham project for 60k reserve. Put in on ebay and was wired 80k within 24 hours. I understand they want cars to sell rather than not meet reserve but feel their estimates on my stuff was a bit on the low side. Still a great site!
Seems their model is to be selective and picky when choosing which cars to allow bidding on...so "yeah" they are going to want low reserves. Other than the nominal $99, they only get paid if it sells. So, all of their incentive is to get it sold. Reserves get in the way of that. It is what it is.
Yah, no doubt. They really want to grind you down. 6 months ago they suggested $85k on my car. I scoffed and said no thanks. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago, I approached them again and this time they said they'd take the listing at $80k reserve! I brushed it off because I was confident it'd do much better than that. My point is that if you are confident in your car, willing to work hard to present it, and serious about selling it...the reserve really won't matter. There's enough of a following now that someone "stealing" a car is pretty rare.
Agreed. And BaT is a great site if you buy and sell cars often, because you will probably come out ahead more often than not.
