although everyone is raving about the 599 because it is such an accomplished all round car (which it is) doesnt the murcielago outclip it in every area performance wise ?

This question appears here every month and getting seriously annoying. NO, NO and one more time NO. May be it is use to read more car magazines before posting threads like this? 599 GTB is perfection in almost every aspect. Murcielago, even LP640, is car neither for DD nor for track, it is usable for PIMP cruising only. I know what I talk, have droven and tested both of them. Best.

Almost an unneccessary question... Neither car is built for the track. Both are road cars. The Ferrari is the technically more accomplished road car, the Lambo is the more 'flash' or 'in your face' road car. No need for lots of emotion on this one.

Have you ever droven 599 GTB on the track? I have done it and it was the greatest track ride in my life. 430 Scuderia is more suited for track use, but it is not comfortable to drive it daily. That is why I can say, that 599 GTB is unique car, it unites great driving specs with DD ability. Best.

EVO pointed out 599 GTB as COTY 2006. I have read almost every EVO article regarding Ferraris. So it will be very interesting for me to know where have you found in the EVO magazine that nonsence? I have all performance numbers from German car magazines tests. 599 GTB outcomes LP640 in almost every aspect. Best.

Supraman - I am not arguing that the 599 is not a good car on track. I am sure that it is. But it is NOT a race car. Whilst I have driven and raced many cars over the last 20 years, I have not driven a 599 - although one day I would very much like to experience that great thrill. I am sure the 599 is a fantastic experience (on road or track), and very rapid - but I stand by my statement that it (and the Lambo) are road cars first and foremost. Clearly, in terms of lap times, the 599 will be faster than the Lambo.

Based on the Sportauto Supertest (the leading international performance test by far) both cars deliver the same performance on NBR and on HHR. Based on AMS data the 599 is faster in terms of straight line acceleration (0-200kph, 0-300kph).

It is safe to say that both cars are very close in terms of performance. The 599 is more modern (suspension, gearbox, traction control) and also a better daily driver. The LP640 is more flashy and an extraordinary driving experience. However, the LP640 is not the faster car.

Yes, of course both of them are road cars. It is even no doubt about it. All I want to say is that 599 GTB is better for both track joy and DD than LP640. Hope that now clarity is achieved. Best.

Is the Murcialago not basically a very extensive update of the 30 years old Countach's steel tubular chassis?
-Whereas the 599GTB is a brand new alll aluminium chassis utilising technolgy from Alcoa (like used for 360, 430, Gallardo, Audi A8).

Sounds to me like comparing cars of different decades.
