I would like some input from the FerrariChat community. I recently purchased a polished aluminum 2.5 pound Halon fire extinguisher with a matching billet aluminum mounting bracket with a quick-release pull knob from Competition Components. Expensive, but an absolute Work-of-Art!! I would like to mount it to the passenger side of the front area of the tunnel console (Ref. #20, Table 131: Tunnel Console, Front Part). I have manufactured a 1/8" thick aluminum backing plate which matches the size of the foot-print of the mounting bracket base. This way, the tunnel console wall will be sandwiched between the backing plate and the mounting bracket. I am also planning on utilizing stainless steel allen head mounting bolts, washers, and nyloc nuts - with the bolts being just long enough to allow me to thread the nuts, but not too long, to prevent them from protruding too far into the inner tunnel area. I'm going to "cap" the nyloc nuts with those little plastic nipples to prevent any possible abrasion on any electrical cables or equipment. I would estimate the fire extinguisher and bracket weigh about 5 pounds, in total.
Question 1: What do you think of this area for mounting (second choice would be a floor mount along the side of the tunnel console)?
Question 2: Any tips/tricks on removing this area of the tunnel console?
Question 3: Do you think that long-term vibration/movement from driving will eventually "break-down" the tunnel console wall material, so that it will no longer support the fire extinguisher and mount?

    THANKS FOR ANY INPUT!

    Thank you, Dan:
However this fire extinguisher has a 1/4 inch thick aluminum plate which is 3 inches wide by 2.5 inches high. I could retrofit many of the seat brackets that I've seen here on FChat, the web, eBay, etc.., but I really don't want to utilize a passenger seat-based mount. I really want to be able to reach the extinguisher while sitting erect in my seat (just in case in pinned by a crash). I could not do that with the later type of mount, that's why I want to use the tunnel mount or, if impossible, a mount along the tunnel on the passenger side. This extinguisher has a two-piece billet bracket that has a 1 inch black plastic knob which you pull the release the extinguisher and one piece of the mounting bracket. It takes only about 1-2 seconds to have the extinguisher in your hand. I know the individual on eBay who designed and manufactures the seat bracket for the F355 spider - great guy and a great product, he also drilled pedals, skid plate, etc.

P.S. I need to order parts. I'll be talking to you soon, Dan.

The tunnel sides are just screwed on there. In my opinion i cant see how it is strong enough to hold this in a crash I'm afraid.
If the panel doesn't rip around the mount the mounting screws will just pull through.

What about mounting it on the parcel shelf?

After examining this area of the tunnel more closely, I agree with your assessment. I thought there might be some metal braces that I could use to support the mounting bracket. No such luck. I am now leaning more towards mounting along the passenger side of the tunnel on the floor pan. Does anyone know of any electrical/coolant/refrigerant lines under the floor pan in that area?
