Looking to add a fire extinguisher to my 458. What are the best setups / brackets? Thanks in advance!
this is mine which is a factory installation. My wife hates it as it gets in the way, lol Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Try to get Halon (still available in the US) or another ''clean" agent extinguisher. They don't leave a residue when used. I think the Ferrari-supplied item is dry powder, which is not ideal. There is a long thread on extinguishers, by the way.
seems to degrade the whole proposition - seems like a leftover from some other era - like wearing knickers to go driving. give me a break.
Racecars carry fire extinguishers for good reason. My GT3 came with a fire extinguisher, along with the roll cage. On my 458, I installed a fire extinguisher on the inner side of the passenger compartment, using a bracket from Race Safe. The extinguishing agent is Halotron, as Halon is banned worldwide, except the U.S. Image Unavailable, Please Login
The bracket is attached to the threaded hole below the left-hand seat rail. I had to modify the Race Safe bracket to fit, and then painted it crinkle black. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I think the extinguisher on the against the tunnel is less obtrusive than the factory installation. (The Porsche GT3 installation by the way almost makes it impossible to take a passenger.) Image Unavailable, Please Login
guess i must be missing something - none of my friends with 458s or 430s or other high performance STREET CARS have ever had a need for a fire extinguisher -- this idea seems off the hook - looks just as bad (with likely practical use for street cars) as the picture with the yellow tow hook in the front of the car.
The early 458s had a fire issue, and several went up in flames. Ditto the last Porsche GT3s. Yes,I think you are missing something. Image Unavailable, Please Login

i do not think the fire extinguisher idea was meant to address flagrant design defects - aside from that embarasing moment in Ferrari history, are there other cases of a reasonable, but nevertheless very small, probability of a fire? have never seen lambos or mclarens with extiguishers - is there some major issue with Ferrari's design/engineering capability for ROAD CARS that creates real fire risk? true race cars, i can appreciate, are a different animal.....
got one in my 458 factory mount and in my 911 TT and in every vehicle I own. When you need it, you need it bad.
I hope I'll never need a fire extinguisher also, but that doesn't mean they're a silly thing to have. Ferrari offer them as an option for a reason. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have a fire extinguisher in my frunk just in case. Most of the fires on 458's I've seen have been in the rear. My friends say just let it burn and get a new one. lol I think putting it in the front seat well is an uncomfortable intrusion on the passenger area which is small enough for some.
Take a look at race safe that uses the chair rail. There should be a thread on this if you do a search.
I got to say if my scud caught fire by the time I put it out there would be too much damage. Let it burn.
Jay Leno, in his column in the current issue of Octane, noted that the attachment of old-car guys to their cars is very different from that of enthusiasts for their new cars. That is probably true. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I ordered the fire extinguisher when spec invite out my '15 spider, but found the factory placement inconvenient (and uncomfortable for passengers). While my car was recently at Algar for its annual, I asked them to move the extinguisher, and mount it on the ledge behind the passenger seat. I like it there much better. I don't have any 'before' pics handy, but there are some of my car in the 'Let's see your silver/gray Ferraris' thread and one other 458 thread here somewhere, in case someeone wants a before/after comparison. Sorry for the ****ty pics- I just went out to the garage and snapped 'em with my cell. I'll try to post better pics at some point. Good luck
......arrrrghhhhhhhhhhh - ***damn stupid smart phone won't let me post pics (or, more likely, I'm too ignorant to know how to do it correctly). Sorry. Will try to figure it out. Mike ....or, you could just look behind your passenger seat and imagine an extinguisher there.
That is a ignorant stereotype. Every Ferrari owner in my local group refuses to let a valet drive their late model Ferrari including myself. There are enthusiasts in every group of car brand/owners and then you have those who don't really care that much about their car for several different reasons.
