Amen... I'm looking for a 550 mount for a customer, and there's nothing very good on the market (other than drilling into panels or using zip-ties)

They expressed an interest to me in developing ext. mounts for more F applications when they did this TR mount for me (of course, if they haven't sold any since then perhaps their interest in the F market has dimmed). I think logistically if you can just get someone in their area (PA) to stop by with a particular F model, the engineer can sketch it up (and the Owner would probably get to keep the prototype after the test fitting).

If you are in the Bay area, you must call Huffaker at Infineon,(Sears Point),
Joe Jr. very charming and nice, made a bracket that fits just ahead and under of my glove box and the fire extinguisher fits perfectly. My 456 is track ready. No interference with the passenger's legs or feet. I am very happy.

FofSF put my mine just behind the passenger's seat. Works fine, and doesn't get in the way.

    Hi
I am also getting ready for a day at California Speedway. I purchased my Halon extinguisher from Chief Aircraft Parts 1-800-447-3408 PArt Number C352TS $117.00. I am having leather covers made and am going to install it the same way as they do when orderring it from the factory. Let me know if you need anything else. Hopefully the pictures come out as well

Guys - If the event you're considering is an FCA event, you might check the rules.

Back in the 70s, we made a rule MANDATING extinguishers but also reading that they must be within the driver's reach AND fixed to the frame or structure with a metal bracket. Plastic bracket or ty-wraps were not allowed.

Halon is definitely the way to go and they are normally available from aircraft suppliers.

If you do a lot of track driving, you might consider a Phoenix onboard system if they're still available. It gives maximum protection because it dupms into the engine as well as the trunk and interior - or, you can set it up any way you want.

Not acceptable for most track events, and definitely not for FCA track events. For the FCA 2005 meet, it says, "A securely mounted, 2.5 lb minimum, fully charged fire extinguisher is required and must be securely mounted. It is recommended the first extinguisher be within reach of the driver. The fire extinguisher requirement will be strictly enforced -- no exceptions at this National Meet."

The redundancy of "securely mounted" is theirs, not mine, but it's an important issue. You don't want loose items in the cockpit that can become projectiles in a crash. You especially don't want heavy ones.

Good point Michael. BTW, Peter Rychel made a good observation that in the design of your bracket, instead of slots, it should have holes to secure it. In the event of a frontal crash, the impact good very well cause that bracket and extinguisher to fly forward, possibly striking the legs/ankles of the passenger. Since the only thing holding it is the friction fit of the bolts.

I have also been looking for a bracket for a 2.5lb H3R; without success. The home-built bracket described requires more technical skill than I have. Tonight I said f*** it; went to Home Depot and bought two 6 inch corner irons, a strip of heavy aluminium strap and short round head bolts. I cut one leg of each bracket to ~4.5 inches, made slots with drill, hacksaw and file and then bent ~15 degrees so the long arm is parallel with floor. Slightly oversized hole will also work. The aluminium strap was cut to length, drilled and bolted to the corner irons. The extinguisher bracket was then bolted to the aluminium strap. The seat movement is not affected with the extinguisher in place. Disclaimer: this bracket has not been crash,DOT,FAA, etc. tested. It has a nice industrial look. (oh, car is a 575)
