First of all don't ever try to top of the tank. I just took the covers off the fuel tanks to check for leaks. No leaks. I smelled a faint gas smell but it always does on a fillup. Luckily I was on a club event and had lots of fire extinguishers so we got it out quick. Anyway I am looking to see if anyone has a 2001 parts car. I need the pass side fuel tank hoses and some relays. Luckily it did not get in the wiring!

Surely you have insurance. Let them cover it. If they decide your car is totaled, then you can buy it back and use the extra money for the parts needed to make it right. The only downside would be the title would reflect that it was either salvaged or rebuilt (or something like that, depending on state). If they decide it's not totaled, then you'd only be out your deductible.

Did not even think about that, I took the gas tank cover and it is not pretty.

Don't go on insurance... It will reflect on your carfax and only raises eyebrows, even if a small event ... Just swallow the expense and fix it properly. Especially as you did not have much paint or car damage. Anything out of the ordinary on a Ferrari will drop value like there's no tomorrow.... Just get the part numbers from eurospares uk and buy them, ship them to you. If you can't change yourself get your friendly neighborhood spider (sorry, mechanic) to change them and be done.
... your mileage may vary, but that's what I would do. Usually the easy way out is the ****ty way out.

100% correct. Learned my lesson on this after hitting a pothole in Houston that damaged both front rims and tires. Carfax now shows an accident history on the car. If you can fix it without involving insurance do that. Otherwise, might consider having them write it off and buy it back.

An update. I really like the car and since I do all my own work, sounds silly but I did not think about ins. Kind of hard to find someone to deal with this. The ins is thinking about having me fix it. I am not too worried about resale as I am going to take pics and it looks bad but the paint did not even get burned on the cover. Also the car is a keeper, 3 pedal euro car. You would have to drive it to see the difference between euro and US performance. Another thing I am going to get the old powder extinguisher as the gas type did nothing. Luckily I was with Ferrari club members or it would be a totally different story.

Doesn't look too bad in my opinion. Clean it all properly, trace all damaged wires and components, replace them...

Lucky is the operative word here. Absolutely.

I had a fuel fire in a 73 911T. I was pulling out of my garage when I noticed flames leaping out of the engine vent. I jumped out of the car while somehow simultaneously grabbing a fire extinguisher (dry chemical) and popping the engine lid. I had the fire out within 20 seconds. The damage looked a lot like yours with mostly char and some burned wires. No warning. No gas smell, just a fuel line that gave out. It took a few months to get the car back on the road but ended up as a non-event. Speed is the key to car fires.

I think the key to my good fortune is that I had practiced jumping out and grabbing the fire extinguisher a couple of times and it was stamped into my brain what to do. One moment of stagnant thought could have turned that 911 into a German barbeque.

So just like in school, practice your fire drill and be sure to keep your fire extinguisher in a handy place that can be reached from outside the car.

I have two fire extinguishers in my 360. A standard dry chemical behind the passenger seat and one of those new fangled things that look like a road flare in the driver's door pocket. I will try and save my car if it catches on fire. I hope I can be as fast and effective as you were if it ever happens.

What a story. Out of curiosity, what kinds of fire extinguishers were used on it to put it out, so well?

I had the one that puts out a gas and it was a waste of time. My friends who were driving with me had dry extinguishers very quickly. We have a fantastic FCA chapter in the desert. Seems weird, I also had an automatic halon type but the sensor was on the opposite side of the engine and did not go off. I call it Jacks Law!!! I am hoping that someone has a parts car that I can just buy everything on top of the fuel tank.
