this is driving me nuts, and is getting worse. i have been using FF for some time now, and i (was) really happy with it. when i right click to save a normal sized pic (say 800x600, not huge) , there is a 3-5 second second delay. i have made new picture files, updated FF, checked the pc with all the spyware virus checks, and i have gottoen nowhere. the delay effect is getting worse,a nd i sometimes get the "program not responding " message. i am ready to uninstall FF and try to reinstall it, or just go back to IE to surf. if anyone has anything i can check, let me know. if i go to tools or download manager, it takes forever to "think" and allow the application to open, but i cannot make any changes. . i have a cable modem and a decently fast pc. help!
Thats very odd, I've used FF for quite some time and have never experienced that problem. Have you posted to a FF forum or their tech support? If my FF is not working great, I usually open FF in safe mode (no extensions, themes, etc) to narrow down my problems.
I'm not so sure it's a FF problem, it might be a problem with good ol Windows API's and how they interact with FF.
Might not be FF, try re-installing it and if it still screws up go to an older version and if it still screws up then your sure it isn't FF.
Do you have "Show download manager when download begins" checked in Tools > Options > Downloads? If so, try without.....
Is there anything that's making your CPU run at or near 100%? Both FF and IE are slow to respond for me under such circumstances.
i stayed up late last night fighting this. i did some reading and there is a known bug with download manager that makes the computer hang, complete with the cpu at 100 usage issue. i could not find downloads under my tools- options-privacy, and if i tried to clear the downloads, the pc would lock up. i am now on IE and i uninstalled FF. i was running 2.0. there is some .RDF file i needed to find in the FF profile folder and delete it, but i was to pissed off to screw with it, so i uninstalled the program. wierd thing is i went to Mozilla , and i cannot find anywhere to download FF of any version, its like they all have been taken down. there were no clickable downloads for FF anywhere i looked. i have had no issues navigating or downloading data from anywhere else. so i dont think is a page file or dispay issue. i am going to look thismorning before work and see if i can reinstall FF and change some settings. would love any advice or thoughts.
Something like that happened to me..but i dont remeber what i do and now it is more faster...i think that i erase all my downloads.
Firefox.com Tools > Options > Downloads ------------------------------------------- Edit: On the new version its : Tools > Options > Main Then it says something like "Show download manager......" Uncheck this box if it's checked and see if it speeds up.
thank you ! well i found out on reboot IE had all sorts of stuff turned off, including the abilty to download stuff. after about 3 hours trying to figure that out i was able to reinstall FF. now, if i watch it in task manager, as soon as you click it, or try to edit any of its folders the cpu usage goes to 99%. and locks up the pc. this sucks, FF has been trouble free and reliable the whole time i have had it, up until about 2 months ago. then the slow down started. i recently had my cable company out here and they replaced and checked things, and i know my lines and hardware are ok. anybody know what folder to go into in FF2 in the main program file to find this dam download file? the net directions i keep finding are for older versions. i am positive that even with the uninstall and reinstall its remembering data from the last install, and this time its worse! i went into "PROFILE" and there are no "download files" or clickable choices to make changes. i need to get it to at least launch so i can get into the menu and make some changes. any ideas?
I'm confused........ 1. Did you go to firefox.com and download the lastest version? 2. Did you go into options and turn off showing download manager like I suggested?
at first i could not download anything, from anywhere. IE had all sorts of permissions turned off. then i went to mozilla, and installed FF2. yet if i clicked it to launch. or opened ANY of its folders, it would max out my cpu at 99%. i could not launch it to open any of its menus or get to any settings. the following is my update i sent to a friend who is having the exact same issue as me, and he is a IT guy, and its giving him fits. i am just a dumb airplane mechanic! Firefox. this has been a star spangled pain in the ass, but i have learned a lot. i found that IE had a bunch of permissions turned off, including the ability to download anything from a web page. i reinstalled FF2 , but it would peg my cpu at 99% ( i watched it in task manager) if i even clicked on the icon to launch it as a browser. because of this fact, i could not open the **** sucker to get into the menus. its fixed for now, and everything is back to normal, i think. i did it this way, after reading stuff way over my head. start _ run_ %appdata%/mozilla/firefox hit ok. find Firefox and the profile folder. file js3zfl6l.default opens up. delete DL.HST and download.rdf and restart. now everything works, but i dont really know what the heck i did, and if its "fixed". i am posting this on the Ferrari message board i belong to see if it helps others. from all the chat and threads i found in google, i am not the only one suffering from this. yes, Gulfstream / General Dynamics have a program for qualified current employees that meet certain prerequisites to advance into Design Engineering. i want to work in Research and Development. Catia V5 is like another language, from another planet, but i love working with it.
That's fantastic......... It's great that they have this program and that you are taking advantage of it.
