I opened up my browser today and this little box came up and gave me the option to choose between a default profile or make up a new profile. I opened it up by clicking on default browser and now all my bookmarks are gone. I can't find my old firefox profile, how the hell do I find my old firefox profile where all my bookmarks were?

I tried typing firefox.exe -profilemanager and running it as the firefox site says to get to my profile manager, but all that happens is the firefox browser opens up and it just goes to the main Google search page. WTF? So I can't access my profile manager to see if my "old" profile with all my bookmarks is there or not. And I can't find anything in my in my C drive in the Firefox folder. What a POS. This all happened randomly for no reason at all.

just delete the default profile and then recreate it. Then check the box next to automatically log on to that one next time. Something you did accidentally corrupted your old profile. Shouldn't affect anything though, so you should be fine.

    Try going to
    C:\Documents and Settings\______YOURNAME_____\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

There should be 2 folders, one for the new profile and one for the old. Copy the "bookmarks.html" from the old folder to the new one. If there's only 1 folder there then you're out of luck :(

whenever i get the box saying the firefox is already running and to pick a new screenname or something rather, i just push control alt delete. select firefox.exe. then click end program. open firefox, and all is well.

Folks should backup (export) all e-mail address books, contact lists and favorites anyway, they should all fit on a floppy (remember them ?).

I can't count how many folks have called me asking how to recover stuff from failed hard drives. You generally can't.

My first bad experience was 9 years ago, when I lost 200 e-mail addresses (some VERY prominent racing people among them - my direct line to them), and over 2,000 website favorites. Luckily, I had copied them to a floppy, and then to a 2nd floppy. Yep - one of the floppies went bad, the second one rescued my a**.

Yeah, I know just got lazy I guess.

I finally got to the profile page and my old profile was still there. What I did was run firefox.exe -profilemanager, but only after I had done control + alt + delete and shut firefox down from running in the backround.

    chrlsstyles - thanks again.
