I recently found a 3500GT Vignale prototype in its original "barn find" state. The car is all original, but needing a complete refurbishing. This was the very first 3500 spyder prototype Michelotti completed on the shortened 3500 frame ... even before the two prototypes that were displayed at the 1959 Turin Auto show.

Photos and some of the history of this car are posted on this webpage:

Very nice find. Amazing car. I hope it will not be over-restored with Pebble-Beach-like chromes everywhere. Would be nice if it could be kept as close as possible as it was when new.

I know the man who owns the car very well, he's a good friend. Among Maserati enthusiasts he's renowned for his totally flawless restorations, which nonetheless always retain the spirit of the original car: he never "over-restores". He always drives his restored beauties: some of you may recall his stunning silver/red Ghibli SS Spider at Concorso Italiano in 2001, which had been driven all the way from Virginia and managed to win a prize at the show!

He tells me that hopefully we'll see his Vignale beauty back on the road by September.
