I own Ferrari 400iA VIN Number 28341. It is a RHD car and the engine number is 0000007.
I was wondering what the first RHD 400iA Vin number was or if anyone is aware of an earlier 400iA.

    Thank you.

    Hi Rick

Ferrari Market Letter says that the first 400i was 27075 while Cavallino says that the first 400i was 27978, which must be a mistake because Ferrari did not use even serial numbers for its road cars in those days.

No information on whether the first was an automatic or not and no information on the first RHD.

Ferrari produced 83 automatics and 33 5 speeds for total production of 116 400i cars in 1979

Yours is certainly pretty early in the run, that is for sure!

    Thank you John,

    That is great information.
I believe that it is a relatively early car for a 400i, as I havent seen one with an earlier chassis/VIN number. (Also it has a very low engine number).
It is difficult to make any sense of the chassis/VIN numbers as there seems to be a huge difference between the chassis/VIN numbers and the actual numbers produced over a given time.

    Cheers.

Just a bit more info on Chassis No. 28341.
The car was delivered new to the UK on 17 Aug 1979.

    Cheers !

Don't forget that Ferrari serial numbers in those years were assigned only odd numbers for the road cars.

Also, ALL Ferrari models in production got the sequence of serial numbers so that is another reason why the range between the low and high serial numbers for the 400i cars covers a much larger span than would be suggested by the production volumes reported.

You might want to take a look at The Ferrari 400 Register - 400i

I wrote this site in 2001 and I can't recall where all the info came from. I have the first RHD 400i as 28073 but I have no idea regarding whether it was auto or manual.
