First BMW back now LEXUS enters ALMS GT2 for next year!

ALMS should be quite fun next year. Lets hope GT1 and the LMP classes are as good.

Team Lexus will field two factory-backed IS 350 sport sedans. The newly developed 2006 Lexus will mark its racing debut at the 12 Hours of Sebring in March of 2006.

"Much like we hope the new IS will become, we view the American Le Mans Series as an aspirational series," commented Lexus Group Vice President and General Manager Bob Carter. "It's an ideal fit for Lexus because it celebrates the technology and performance inherent in the best cars."

Both BMW and Lexus' parent company Toyota have rich histories in sportscar racing roots that allows their names alone to stand out as a coup for the ALMS. And both have links to the 24 Hours of Le Mans. However, at this time neither the M3 nor the IS 350 are eligible to run at the famous La Sarthe circuit.

I think the entry of Lexus has to do with Toyota releasing the brand in Japan.
