    This is an older thread but I was reminded of it today. At the beginning of the thread my position is to buy a bigger boat and figure it out. You were more of the "don't be the Red Boat guy" and buy a smaller boat to learn with. Turns out, you were right and I was wrong.

    I sold a 32 Whaler I had to a first time boater about 90 days ago. What could go wrong? Actually, quite a bit. Both carbon fiber antennas have been knocked off going under a bridge, Broken through haul fittings when a battery broke a mount, some heavy dock kisses and on and on. It's a pretty steep learning curve.

    The guys still happy he bought the boat but...

    Thats what I did, I went from a 23' to a 28' to a 40' in 4 years. Next one will be about 55'. There is so much to learn - not just piloting the boat but all of the systems, care, etc. It helps to be around some experienced people who don't mind spending some time with you.
