The 612 paddle shift is called F1/a because it was a big improvement on those found in the 355, 360, 550, and 575. It is in another world from the GM-sourced automatic of the 456, which offers no shifting involvement at all. As I've said many times, if my 456M had a manual, I would have kept it forever. Now, come to think of it, if an F1 had been available for the 456, I probably would've kept that one too.
