So i've have my new F355 GTS for about 4 weeks now, driving it pretty frequently, and enjoying every minute of it WELLLLL, this morning i start it up in the garage and let it run for light 5-10 minutes to get it warmed up.. I got to get into the car and BOOM! Check Engine light is on. I immediately turned off the car and waited like 5 mins, and restarted.. and still there. AC was running i shut it off, same thing.. I've read alot about these light going on on these cars but for the gearheads, and just plain smarter ppl than I, are there are easy "check this outs, look for this, is this XYZ, type diagnostics that i can look over the car with before i take it to the shop. I'm really nervous about driving it, althought i did drive it to work this morning and opened it up on the highway and even thought the light was on, there wasn't any operational difference so i thought. PLEASE HELP/THANKS Chris~
Your car is equipped with OnBoard Diagnostics. You need to read the "code" stored in the brain to help us see what the problem is. You may have to buy a code reader, something we all should own. Under $100 at any parts store.
Agreed, see what code it is throwing. Then decide where to go next. If you don't feel like spending $$ on a reader, if you care to drive up to Marlborough I have one. But gas will probably cost you more than a reader.
That's a bit embarassing for a former detective. Guess I could have checked the profile as well. Good catch Vas... Henry
Well, from a 348 perspective... in my initial sorting I had 2 big CEL issues: 1) ultimately came down to replacing the O2 sensors. A cheap and easy fix! If they were only all like this... 2) Root cause finally came down to an Exhaust ECU issue. In 2008, I was able to source 2 of these on Ebay for $500. Last I checked at various sources, these were going for about $2200 each! (GAH! *sadface*) Luckily, these are easily by-passed. Lots of info here on doing that, but others are way more educated there than I. So far I've been skating my on my replacements from 2008. Did you have a cylinder bank shut down when you CEL came on?
Get a simple reader. Like this: Autel MaxiScan MS509 OBD-II/EOBD Scanner : Amazon.com : Automotive Plug it into the OBD port, fire up the car and follow the instructions. It will give you a 4 digit code. Post that code back here and we can try and help.
