    Hi everyone!

I took my 550 out for the first drive of the season and everything was working perfectly. Then I went to the gas station to get some fresh gas. When I went to restart the car, the dash was not working. No tach, speedo, oil pressure, coolant temp. I’m guessing it’s a fuse? Has this ever happened to you? What do you all think could be the cause?

    Thanks everyone!

I believe a weak battery has been known to cause those symptoms.

It’s funny you say that because I also had the red battery symbol on the dash but only for 5 seconds...car started normally with a fast crank and has been on a trickle charger all winter. Hmm.

Morgan, I experienced similar stuff last year w/ my 550. Intermittent battery light and the dash would "flicker" off intermittently as you describe. Then, as I was heading home after a coffee n' cars one Saturday morning to park the car (and plan to take it to the local F-car expert in next week to have it checked out), the battery light went on solid, the dash and pretty much all the electrics "went out" completely, and then the dreaded "Slow Down" flight came on.

Turns out the cause, not surprisingly, was a bad alternator that wasn't charging properly. The SD light, which was a surprise, came on b/c the coils on the left bank cylinders had stopped producing spark for lack of juice, but fuel continued to be injected, which overheated one of the cats. All this starting from an intermittent battery light.

Bottom line, recommend you go have it checked out before it gets worse. New Ferrari alternator cost just under a grand, although there might be a cheaper equivalent. Don't ask what new cats cost (or used if you can even find any).

Beware of the counterfeit Denso alternators being sold as a replacement for John Deere Marine alternator which as Pete <moorfan> found is a replacement for the factory Denso except for one mounting hole that needs enlargement.

As far as I know there are no more "real" Denso 101211-7480 alternators, lots of fakes though on ebay and Amazon.

    This thread is good reading.

Well, this thread was good reading when it was about the Ferrari FF and pricing. It lost most of its charm when it became a contest between Mercedes and Tesla. Perhaps there are forums for these makes and models....

Right you are, sir. Huh and even Duh!! This comment was meant to be in another thread. Over in FF land, there is a thread that has gone over to a Tesla/Merc fanboy spitting contest. I managed to post this in the wrong place. When I read your comment that the thread was good reading, I thought I was over in that other thread. Duh indeed.

Hi everyone! Thank you for your suggestions, luckily it was only a fuse! My 550 is back up and running!

Usually blown fuses are symptoms and not root causes. Just sayin...
