Don't they say that cars that RNM are basically hard to sell afterwards? The VIN is everywhere now, so it should be easy to monitor.

This might be a good time for me to point out that our online auction division Sackey & Co absolutely gets involved in the facilitation of all sold transactions and thereby can verify our posted results 100%.

Unless the car actually transacts nobody wins anything IMHO.

Your view that the cars should be driven is admirable, and I agree with it, that said, mileage still matters significantly where values of these are concerned, as does condition, originality, maintenance history, provenance etc.

Mileage has always been just one of the metrics, it was never the only metric, meanwhile the reason prices are all over the board is IMO because the money supply is high for reasons we all know.

    I agree.

    Well-said.

This has always been, it's nothing new that as cars age mileage matters a bit less.

Let's all bear in mind that people generally advocate their own situation, if they own a low mileage car, mileage really matters, if they own a car with miles, mileage doesn't matter, the reality is somewhere in-between.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t a lot of F40s head straight to storage right off the lot? It would be interesting to guess what the percentage of garage queens might be versus driven cars. After all, there were a lot more F40s made than say 275 GTBs.

AFAIK a number F40s went into storage as that period (bubble era) seems to start the popularity of people putting cars away with low miles. They were also somewhat expensive so the guys who could afford them typically had several cars which kept F40 miles down any virtue of the fact owners were mixing miles between a number of cars.

The 275 wasn’t like that in that nobody though about keeping miles low for “investment”. To me that’s the primary reason most buyers aren’t bothered about miles on cars predating the late 80s… they don’t exist in a meaningful/liquid way as to create a market differential. Taking a much less expensive but similar compare and contrast example look at a 356 Porsche speedster as compared to a 1989 911 speedster. Nobody really cares about the miles on an early car but since so many ‘89s were “put away” and had low miles that factor has become an important determinant in pricing and demand for that matter.

roughly 800 total 275gtb's were made if you count all variants.

What I find interesting is it appears the best F40s are bumping $2.5 million. It wasn’t that long ago that a good 275 GTB was $2.5 million. Of course, 275s have also moved up ($3.5 ???). A F40 is a great Ferrari, but a 275 GTB is as good as it gets for those of us who are mere millionaires.

Correct, and it's also worth mentioning that in this era everyone thinks they're an expert.

    More than that.

I agree but can you imagine what is coming up with all the modern ridiculous "limited edition" cars of all makes and models? Wonder what the threshold will be...

If I had the money I'd be looking for a car I can drive and not worry too much...

You have to wonder when the "relative value" will kick in. If an F40 goes for $3 million, for just a little bit more, in a relative sense, you can have a... 275GTB, Enzo, and so forth and so on.

It's tough to compare the 60s classics to the halos, but my dealership service manager says the Enzo is not that amazing outside of the design. The transmission is not able to keep up with the motor. They've had a few LaFerraris sitting for months waiting on replacement hybrid batteries. F50s are difficult to service since the motor is part of the chassis.

The F40, to the service guys, is the end-all be-all.

Meanwhile I received an email from Bill Noon (Symbolic) that he will be simultaneously putting an F40 and 959 on BaT. Should be interesting.
