    Greetings all, from Nottingham England and will post some pictures in due course of my very smart “new” 1084 Mondial QV. It appeared in Classic and Sportscar magazine in the late 1990s, wasn’t expecting that!

    Am a 6ft4 giraffe. No problem at all, just wear narrow shoes if you can. Otherwise very comfortable.

    Speedo doesn’t work but will fix that in due course. Otherwise seems ok as last guy serviced it before sale. However after 15 miles it’s just thrown a load of engine oil out of what looks like the breather vapour oil catcher, onto garage floor near the nearside rear wheel. Hopefully was just overfilled, but has anyone any thoughts of what to do or what other problems or could be. Will do a compression test I suppose. Anything else to check first and anyone else had this?

    What is this can please, think it might not be the vapour oil separator? That’s where the oil spewed from.

    Ah thank you so much. I think the oil might just have splattered in the outside of it then. Maybe I have a broken hose near it, perhaps for the oil cooler. Will get it checked. Thanks again! Tony

    Odd place to see oil. Maybe just messed up when removing an oil filter? Clean it up, and see if oil reappears.

    Thanks. Yes very odd, but suddenly it made a big pool near the rear wheel as pictured. Really confused so far as the oil cooler and filter look clean and dry. Will investigate further today but any suggestions, before can get in on a ramp next week, would be gratefully received!

    Oil lines between engine and oil cooler. Those are know to failure.

    That is a lot of oil. Maybe an internal rubber hose failure of the stainless steel braided oil line?

    Could be a shift shaft seal, maybe it is gear oil?

    Aren't there two shift haft seals--one between the engine and transmission and one where the shift shaft enters the engine? A leak in the former one wouldn't produce a visible leak, but the latter one entering the engine would leak motor oil. I would think that the seal is above the oil level in the sump, but I don't know any of this for sure. That's a good idea to check, certainly.

    Yes, the latter one can leak, the oil can collect on the undertray, and leak down further away from the actual source of the leak, so the puddle by one side may not be diagnostic.

    If the shift shaft is leaking externally, you would want to redo the internal one too.

    The gear oil has a distinctly different smell than motor oil. Scoth drinkers would be able to tell the difference for sure!

    Thanks all. Will report back once it’s sorted. Great content on this site, happy to be here. Think it’s the oil cooler failed so will remove and get re-cored. Read here that it can be tricky with corrosion so will get Nick Cartwright of Tansley Derbyshire UK to do as it’s the first job and it needs speedo fixing too (learnt that if odometer works then sender prolly fine). Cheers!

    Check to see if the odometer also stopped working. If that's the case, it's probably a bad sender unit (located on the right hand side of the gearbox sump cover. Easy to replace but expensive. Just did that repair.

    Thanks Hugh. Will do exactly that then as soon as the car will drive again. Around USD300 or GBP260 looks like for the sender then, probably better than a speedo rebuild though!
