New to the boards here, and super excited to join in the setting of living out the childhood dream in just buying my first Ferrari. The car is an 07 430 MT 12k miles I got from a Ferrari dealer. I worked in NYC the last 12 years but now after moving to suburbia in NH, I'm finally back on the road again more consistently. The last sports car I owned was a 97 Supra Turbo (sold it 11 years ago, was hard to let that one go). I was adamant about the MT, I can see DCT is an ever-improving technology, and it will always be available to buy in the future- but this is a car I'm hoping to keep forever.

Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone here in the NE area is or has been a part of any sports car clubs, or how they go about getting their cars on a track. I don't want to mess the car, myself, or anyone else up on public roads and as appetizing as the winding back roads are here in NH, I'd rather try to learn how to really drive this machine in a controlled setting. I know there is both a NH and a NE sports car club, anyone have any experience with these? Any other sports car clubs worth joining or how do you all like to enjoy your cars? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Also, I'd love to hear any personal stories about the first time you drove a Ferrari you owned. I'm having the car stored at the dealer until April (or whenever the weather clears) but needless to say I can't wait. I'd be curious to hear how you guys took your first drives...

Very first time I drove a Ferrari.. any Ferrari was when the delivery driver let me drive my car off the truck. Was a sweet experience.

My very first official drive was around my hood' at night. Was quite magical. Every time I get behind the wheel to this day (today actually) my heart flutters a little just before I put the key in to start her up. Three years later and the car still elicits this. You don't have to drive the car at 9/10 to feel this. Just a drive around at a more sedate pace will get ya going.. BTW mine is a manual tranny as well. I couldn't get into the F1. Wise choice.

    Oh, and congrats!

Your first drive must have been something! I test drove mine with the dealer in Friday rush hour traffic and the city was gridlocked. Dont even think I got into third gear or went over 30 mph! Then my second drive I picked it up and drove on the freeway in light traffic for the first time solo. Whoo-Hoo...until I got close to home and the worst rainstorm imaginable and was very stressed out!

I just joined the Ferrari Club of America in the NY region. They have several track events at tracks like Watkins Glen and Limerock. They are planning one right now for a track day at Circuit of The America's (COTA) F1 track in Austin. That would be amazing to drive my F430 on an F1 track. But logistics will keep me from doing so.

I have an '07 as well. You are going to LOVE it! Every time I go in the garage and I see it I have to pinch myself. It's for sure my dream car. Can't wait until springtime.

I am a different animal then. My first drive in a Ferrari did not feel special in the sense that I was awkward at it. But, it has gotten better over the years. I feel special every time I get into one of those cars, be it a lowly 328 to a more soul inspiring 355...

My first drive in a Ferrari was in a 360 Spider 6 speed I purchased at Algar Ferrari outside of Philadelphia. I remember being impressed with the responsiveness and handling of the car. At the time I owned an R8 and couldn't believe that the Ferrari handled every bit as well as the R8. I was immediately hooked. Still love everything about the 360 manual. Wait until you drive a 458. You'll really flip. Best of luck with your new car. You'll find that this forum offers a wealth of information about our cars. Welcome and enjoy. Best, Tom

I shall never forget the day my baby arrived back in August of 2009. Here are a couple of "birthing" pictures. :)

Congrats to the OP! Enjoy her.

congrats on the 430! Mines in storage also, perhaps at the same dealer (I'm in MA)? Hopefully by April we can get them out, I also can't wait each year to take the first ride of the season. I envy your access to some nice roads up there, everything's falling apart down here, constantly dodging potholes, lol, have fun!
