Today a took a clients car for a test drive and had a terrible time in first gear with it jerking like a bucking horse. I backed off to smooth it out by shifting into second - helped alot. It is an F1 trans.

I have a 360 of my own and don't have this issue.

What seems to be the issue with this - throttle position issue?

    Appreciate the input.

I would have to assume there would at least be some pending codes for an issue that severe if it was a throttle or engine issue, and if it only happens in 1st, I would start looking at the questions that @flash32 asked.

Also .. if you can inspect inside bell housing for oil leak .. could be a TO bearing leaking on to clutch friction material and causing that as well
    Use a borescope

It wouldn't surprise me if clutch is also worn

My 2003 gated manual can buck annoyingly enough to make me shift into 2nd.

When I leave my cul-de-sac I intentionally drive 15-20 mph until I reach the main road. Sometimes the bucking gets annoying! New clutch, TO bearing, etc. I am convinced it’s an electronics/software issue. I am hoping when I get trev360’s upgrade it will go away.

I honestly doubt the bucking is caused by engine ECU .. sounds like something else is going on ..

My gated manual will do this if I apply the throttle unevenly or sloppily. It happens every once in a while when I hit a pothole or uneven pavement accelerating from 1st and my foot slips on the throttle. It gets into a self reinforcing oscillation it seems like. I could see it if the cars f1 settings are incorrect that it would cause something similar.

I have had this issue for years. I just finished a major service and thought I would follow the start up procedure after the electrical system was disabled. Here it is from another poster:

Turn battery disconnect switch off and turn off all accessories (stereo, A/C, etc).
Let engine get completely cold or wait for at least 30 minutes.
Insert key in ignition and leave for 30 seconds.
Turn ignition to on and leave for 30 seconds.
Turn ignition off and leave for 30 seconds.
Turn ignition on, wait for Check OK, and start.
Let idle with no input whatsoever for 10 minutes.
Turn accessories back on and drive gently for 10-15 minutes at least.
You will have to insert stereo code, if required.

This worked really nice and the car now does not have the jerking like it did.
