I agree with you on this - I think Lewis made a statement testing this week without having to say a word. I believe Lewis is more focused that last year. Mr. Playboy apparently hasn't honored his gf's statement that if he won the dc, he'd be on his knees to her - not a good move if you are needing to put 110% focus into your racing. I think it will be MS, Lewis, Alonso battle for the season.

    +1.

JB was lucky, nothing more nothing less ... reality will put his feet firmly on the ground. Sad that F1 is so car related that somebody of his level ended up with the top prize, but it has always been so a pat on the back to JB for ending up in the right car and the right time!. Ross Brawn should have got the title :).

considering how far off Kimi's times Fisi and Badoer were, you'd have to say Alonso has done a great job to be doing Massa's times so quickly after joining the team.

what it all means, i have no idea.

I think it means that they BOTH have a lot of catching up to do

Massa I believe will still need to get his full confidence back and Alonso still has to come to terms with the car but their times are both very close so maybe the car needs to be developed some more to improve the times

right on the money, although in fairness to JB I actually thought he admitted it was the car that got him the title and he didn't have an over-inflated view of himself like some other wanker we could name

Even among WDC's there is a pecking order. JB is at the opposite end to MS, and JB will most definitely never win another. LH though would be in the middle of that pecking order list.

Rememder Eddie Irvine was very close to winning a WDC, very close ... that would nearly have been just as undeserving IMO :).

Then my respect for JB has gone up a further notch.

Mansell is still my favourite modern English driver, but Stirling Moss is by far the best driver England ever produced with Jimmy Clark or Jackie Stewart next (possibly a better overall driver than Jimmy???).

One of things I really respected with Damon Hill was how he handled himself off the track, considering the drama of '94 (particularly the circumstances of the last race) and then the many other incidents with MS over the next couple of years he was always professional and a sportsman. With that last race in '94 I would have smashed the steering wheel into a million pieces ... but DH took it all with great dignity.

Jeez, pretty relaxed after the race there isn't he? Beer, smoke, chick. It makes me think in 30 years we will see F1 drivers having to wear spacesuits.

James was a lot faster than most people realise, but he was also a driver that drove on fear and aggression. According to what I've read he used to vomit before each race because he was so wound up, and delays, etc. would make this worse and he would end up fired right up in a rage. The McLaren team used to play on this in qualifying and have the car sitting on the jacks while he was getting more and more stressed/wound up ... with a few minutes to go they would put the car down and off he would scream with tyres smoking.

All this means that he was unlikely to repeat his WDC as you can't push yourself over the limit like that constantly.

But he also entered an IROC race in America and so did a lot of NASCAR and other F1 and top drivers ... interestingly out of all the drivers and in a unfamiliar car, James got pole!

BTW: Forgot to mention that in my last post that I would put Damon Hill above Jensen Button in my list of drivers. Damon had a way tougher championship and showed better consistency and had an inform MS to deal with.

Err... Sorry to be pedantic but both Jim Clark and Jackie Stewart were Scottish, not English.;)

And where's Graham Hill?. Now there's a a man who knew how to race and knew how to party! (probably more so than James Hunt!). :D
