I'm 16 and working at Timberline Steakhouse and Grill. Busing tables and hosting. Should be a real hoot. My boss is hot, but she is intimidating. The kind of girl that talks so much that you have no chance to look at her because your trying to listen. The people who work there seem cool, and I get 50% off an entree after my shifts, plus free salad and bread 15 minutes before my shift starts or after it.

Anyone wanna share the story of their first job?

Congrats! In time you will begin to realise that working in restaraunts suck. The general population is as intelligent as that part of the dead cow they have on their plate, and just about everyone is having a bad day when you're serving/bussing their table. But other then that restaraunts are great! Oh and watch out for the crowd that like's to talk **** behind your back.

    Congrats on your first job.

My first job was on a film called Scarecrows assisting the special effects dept when I was 17. First couple months I cut clay into small pieces and kneaded it softer so that the sculptor could focus on the sculpture. I also took out the trash and swept the floors.

Then the actor playing the scarecrow creature quit or was sick or something and I was the same build so i wore the costume and chased the other actors.

22 years later it was still one of the best experiences of my life.

Haha... Pumping gas at a downtown Petro Canada in Calgary, AB. Interesting customer base down there. One minute a cracked out skank would pull in and ask for 3.00 worth of gas, and then a Porsche Turbo or CL55 came in and filled up. I did the whole procedure, gas, wash windshield, checked fluids, monitor air pressure. Put up with alot of **** for $7.00/hr and was treated pretty poorly by just about everyone LOL. It was 6 years ago.

I now work in one of the office buildings which looks down that way and stil drive past there. Good times :D

I started my own "little" business when I was around your age. Back then, basket case "Shovelheads" (in the southbay area) were pretty easy to source and since I was close with the high school "shop guys" I was able to get the bike painted virtually free! I would use my grandpa's garage to assemble the bike then sell it at a profit. I was able to turn around atleast 2 bikes every three months.

    congratulations on your first job!
mine was a busboy also, at a small little deli, i hated every minute of it, i got 4.15 an hour +10% of tips, so in the end, i pulled in around 5.05 an hour. 4 hours a week. (they were only open for lunch every saturday) my bosses treated us like crap, most of the customers treated me like crap, there was one i remember that always came in every saturday at the same time, ordered the same food, either drove a jag or a rolls silver shadow, always tipped 2 dollars, no matter how much food he ordered, he hated the busboys, but his wife was one of the niecs ladies i've ever met. if i got food there, i pretty much kissed away whatever i made that day, no deals, lol. plus, my immediate boss, the line cook, was a former male stripper, who, literally hit on every 15 year old girl that worked there, pretty sad. i went back about a month after i quit and saw they had a rating of "D" from the health department, i kind of figured it would get a rating like that, :) it was a great learning experience though, i think everyone should work in the food industry at least once in their life, to understand how bad of a job it can be, :)

    Congrats on your first job.

My first job (16 yo) was work at a kolache shop (Olde Town Kolaches for those in Houston). I had to be there at 3A.M. my first day!

After that it changed to 6:30A.M. and I worked till 11A.M. Pretty much all the food I could eat. I washed dishes, cut up sausage, stocked the fridge, stocked the food in ovens, and worked the register.

It was just a job, but the best part was the shock and awe of everyone thinking I was crazy working such early hours at 16. I viewed it as the best since I always had the rest of the day to have fun.

Looks like a cool little film: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096046/

First job for me was a paper route. Did that for about 4 years from about 11 to about 15 and it paid for my first car. It also imparted good sales and accounting skills. I never understood parents who would let their kids go through life without getting a job.

Besides washing some of the neighborhood cars for $0.25, My first Job at 15 years old was vacuming the floor of a local Golds Gym 3 times a week for $ 15.00 cash. 5-26-1985 was the 1st payday and I had promised my family I would take them all to dinner. McDonalds it was for $ 13.87 and when I pulled out the $15.00 my father would not let me pay but told me how proud he was of me.

Mentally prepare yourself to be treated like absolute crap.

And don't blow your earnings. Indulge from time to time, but compounding interest is your friend.

Mainly wash/wax cars. Which I don't mind doing, if they were nice cars. They were CRAPPY cars though, and I couldn't even see the results of waxing =( If I wasn't waxing or washing I was sweeping or doing busy work. Now I do some random detail jobs on my parents/neighbors cars for about a $100 a piece.

My first job was actually watching kids at my aunts day care when I was 15, got I think a $100 a week. Since then I've gone from working as a delivery guy at El Pollo loco to working at Apple as a specialist. Now that I'm finally graduating, time to look for a better paying job. :)

Before I was legally allowed to work (14yo), I worked for the city (under a friend's paycheck) cleaning up roadkill, sewage leaks, downed tree branches, fertilizing, installing sprinklers, etc. When I was 16 I worked for a web design company for a whopping $6/hr. Best investment I ever made though.

I really think everyone needs to work at least one horrible job when they're young, so they'll appreciate the better ones later.

Congrats man. Always do your best - it does get noticed.

I had a paper route at the age of 13 which ended up paying for most of my first car (1974 Triumph Spitfire), but my first real job was as a Taekwondo instructor (was a 3rd degree black belt at the time) shortly after turning 15.

    Neil.....

Maclin Ford had their own 2 pump gas station onsite by their service department.......no retail sales.......it was for filling up inventory only. IIRC we'd go thru $75 a day,........and I'd see 10-15 cars. Gas was around 50-60 cents a gallon.
