I went out for my first long club ride (230 miles) with my 348 over the weekend and had the new owner “Slow Down 1-4” experience. The car was running without problems for a good couple of hours most of it in the triple digits, we stopped for a bathroom break and usual chit chat (30 mins). On restart, the car has no power and after 5 mins the CEL 1-4 came on, I slowed down and suddenly it magically cleared and I was off again. Got home after another good run - no glowing cats or strange noises. I let the car sit for 45 mins and drive to start it - again no power and CEL 1-4, I drove around for a while, but to didn't clear this time. I decided to let it sit overnight and see if anything changed – to no avail. I pull the codes and get 4121 Cat Temp ECU and 1114 O2 sensor.

I think I am ok on the O2 since they were recently replaced, I am I hoping a bad ground. What about the Cat ECU, I have an X-OST and Hyperflow package that I still need to install (my garage is getting a maker over), do need to replace the ECU or can it be bypassed.

BTW, cleared the fault car still running on 4 cylinder – but no CEL light.
    TIA

It's pretty easy to swap the exhaust ECU's from left side over to right side and vice-versa to see if the problem/light flips sides, too.

Same goes for swapping O2 sensors from side to side. If the codes flip banks after your swap, then it's probably those parts that need replacing. If not, then your sensors may be alerting you to a very real problem (e.g. mixture too rich).

Is the Cat ECU part of the ignition ECU 2.7 "box" or is it a different item altogether? Can't seem to find it on my workshop manual.

If you O2 sensors are newish, then I would check and clean the connectors and add a ground to them. You have probably already seen the threads on this, but basically you pipe clamp a wire to the O2 sensor body, and run the wire to a solid chassis or engine ground.

    WOW!

I think this could be the first time the stupid cat ecu's actually did not give a false signal.

If your O2 sensor is bad, then you actually could have a problem with the car running rich and thus the cats getting hot.

As ND said, try swapping the cat ecu's from side to side to see if the light comes again on the same bank.

Man this will be amazing if the stupid cat ecu actually did it's job the right way for once.
