since buying my f355, i've had nothing but admiration and positive comments from people about the f-car. yesterday was the first negative. as i was driving into my building, i notice a grouchy-looking old man watching me. didn't think anything of it until i run into him in the elevator. here is the convo:

grouchy old man: is that your ferrari? it doesn't sound right...

me: it sounds okay to me.

gom: something about it doesn't sound right.

me: do you have a ferrari?

gom: no, but it sounds too loud. doesn't sound right.

at this point he exits the elevator on his floor, mumbling something incoherent as the doors begin to close. he was obviously waiting for me to hold the door and respond to his obvious displeasure. i let it shut.

you guys get any of this? should i take my car in for a check up? ;-)

Thats people mate. Though there are just as many "grouchy" Ferrari owners out there to. I have tried speaking to some random Ferrari owners who are as grouchy as f**K and who add to the impression that Ferrari drivers are up there own backsides. Had one only last week, i walked away thinking what an arse hole:(

Not just Ferrari, anything a little flashy or loud and it can happen. Some people just don't know about or care to know about cars.

Next time you see him, ask him to take a ride with you and tell you what he thinks.....respond with kindness and interest....lots of old people are lonely and just want attention.

First negative comment (like so many) came from a whitebeard. Driving my car at less than 10 mph in the back of business park and some guy with a briefcase getting out of a honda waits for me to drive by him and with a sour look on his face yells "nice FIAT!!"

    Was like WTF????

Was the parking garage under ground? (I have come into a parking lot above ground and set off about 3 car alarms) really should not be to surprising that someone would say that about a loud Ferrari. When Harley's go by me with straight pipes and "rev" I truly feel as I would like to take a 2 x 4 and knock them off their bikes - at times it enrages me as my ear drums bleed. I am a Ferrari lover, however most are not and it should be no surprise at all to have people look at you in disgust in a loud Ferrari. Think about it from 75% of the population of people that could care less about cars. Joe Blow pulls into parking lot in expensive, INCREDILBY flashy car, very loud, and you think people are going to not get annoyed or pissed off?

I love it but if that is a surprise that is well ..... surprising.

the ususal comment is that a Ferrari/Fiat should have a V12 engine, don't worry about the Fiat jibes the F1 team don't and have a Fiat badge on the nose cone of the F1 cars. The company is owned by Fiat after all.

I find the car will either bring out the best, or the worst in people.

    Positive reactions:
    "Nice Car"
    thumbs up
    etc.
    "Sweet!"
    "Can I have a ride?"
    "Are you married?"
"can I wash it for you?"
"Can I take a picture of your car?"

    Negative reactions:
    Someone spit on it once
Comments about me trying to compensate for something...
One in particular that I still laugh about....was out for a drive and heading home. I was on a 4 lane road and a Honda Civic with about three different color body panels, and a temporary spare (which I was amazed that the temporary spare is actually smaller than the other three wheels on the car!) pulls up next to me. We were at a red light. Just as the light turned green and we both start to pull away I hear: "Sorry about your p3n1s!" LOL
Hurtful seething down right angry comments that only make me feel sorry for the person making them. You know that their life has to be pretty messed up in order for them to try to make you feel the way they do probably all of the time.

Again, the car has sparked many interesting conversations, most good, some really bad. I am surprised though at how I think that more women who have approached me about the car actually knew more about it than some guys! One woman started the conversation with: "That's a 348 Spider right?" compared to a guy who didn't particularly address me, he commented to his buddy: "See that there Lamborghini is about $200!, Yup, I got to get me one of them!"

Then if I had a nickel for everytime someone thought the 348 was a Testarossa, I'd probably have enough for a 430!

Only negative comment so far: I had my 348 ts parked in front of my favorite bistro, beautiful afternoon, top down, of course, sipping wine with my wife at a sidewalk table. The grouchy old guy staring at the car from many angles, cigarette in hand, could not have known who owned it. He turns to me and says, "Sure makes a beautiful ashtray", and starts to act like he is going to flick his ashes into the cabin. I didn't know wehether to smile back, or give him the safety blitz. Fortunately, I didn't have to decide. He walked away after just pretending to move his cig toward the car.

here in the US, or a least my NW city, I have had overwhelmingly positive reactions. HS kids droppingg their lattes when i drive by on the way to work, 'stupid car, Man!' (thats good, here). constant street photos. one instance of a totaly hot chick in a 911 taking a picture of me with her phone as we were on opposite sides of an intersection. but i did have that one bad comment ...

You dam kids and yer fancy shmancy cars and all! All that noise, you kin wake the dead. A body don't git no piece 'round heres. It don't sound right, nope not at all. Why, when I was young...

There is more than one generation gap, dude! Don't think that it's only between you and your kids. Enjoy the car and make sure to gun it coming out of the garage every chance you get.

I like it when the Prius drivers give me the thumbs down, then I tell them "my car only gets 4 miles per gallon, and I drive all the time unnecessarily, just to make up for all the Prius owners out there."

Even better is when a group of college age chicas asked me if I ever have sex in my car. Of course my girlfriend was with me, doh!

HAHAHAHAHA----You should here the weasel's neighbors......I get letters in my mailbox!!!!! I have no mufflers, cats, nothing.....Sometimes I get home at 2-3 oclock am.....

They (neighbors) do all kinds of rude crap to me like mow the yard at 7 am on Saturday. With that said, I don't care...I fly RC helicopters all through the neighborhood, the 355B has straight pipes, the Maserati has Tubis, the Viper has BB headers no cats no silencers.....

Be glad the Weasel isn't your neighbor! You'd need earplugs!

Just because you are driving a Ferrari now dont expect everyone to love you. Guy may not even know its a Ferrari. You don't like his choice of clothes, he doen't like your choice of cars. You are equal. And who knows, maybe he is a sharp mechanic and your car really doesn't sound right.

Just be glad you don't live in a small rural, blue collar, redneck town. Driving a Ferrari instead of a Corvette could go from words to actions.
