Old news. RM already announced this early March 2006. Here are some pix of this car, #74049, one of many F40 prototypes built, photographed at Amelia Island 12 March 2006. Note amount of air outlets and non-standard rear window.

I had the car with me (via the owner who lives around the corner from me) at the Italiano Concorso during Pebble Beach 2 years ago. It is really the only F40 Prototypo the others were the GTO Evo's

If you really want to get picky I was riding shotgun in the car three years ago.....

I think so, I don't remeber if it was brought in on a "Show" exemption but 2 of the owners (both Texan's) have kept it pretty close to the chest.

BTW interesting tidbit... This is the only car i am aware of that was on display in the Galleria Ferrari and then came out... there is a great story on how

Back to your original question; I don't think it'll go for much more than a similar condition U.S. example. The fact it is a Euro version, may make it non-legal (although it would be legal up here in Canada :) ) and thus pose a problem for the new owner if they intend to drive it on the street.

Personally, I like these earliest examples (the first 50 featured the sliding-glass side windows), over the U.S. versions.

Marcel, would you happen to have photo(s) of the engine bay (does it have the fabricated intake manifold, versus the later cast ones)?

oh and Peter, It is not just a Euro spec car it is 700 lbs lighter, more powerful Twin Turbos that later came to be called the LM's it has different engine mapping, and there are a bunch of other things that go on and on.

Thanks for posting that, although that is a later, cast manifold. Did it ever have the fabricated (TIG-welded aluminum tube and sheet) intake manifold, or did this appear on an even earlier F40? In Ferrari World Magazine, issue #1, features the proto F40 and with it there is a tasty two-page spread of the engine bay with this manifold. The car is definitely a proto as it features the narrow, two-row-vent rear window and five-slot rear side vents.

I remember when this car was at Lambo of Dallas... we were trying to figure out the differences between the proto and production F40's. There are definately some subtle differences.
