I recently acquired an F-355 spider and while going through the legal motions of getting it registered was told 'that the OBD plug must be fastened to the car in order for the car to be tested". Mine is hanging (was loosened by PO for easier access) and does not appear to be damaged simply needs to be mounted.

So after a wasted trip to the emissions station I am at loss as to where the plug would need to be fastened (no apparent room). If anyone has an under dash picture or precise diagram I would love to see it so that I might be able to fix this "major issue" and get the DMV folks off my back!

    Hi,
I don't have a picture but it should be fastened under the dash and I believe almost right under the steering mechanism (or a little to the side). Its pretty far under the dash. The next problem is getting it to communicate. I spent about 2 months on that one (but mine was mounted). If you have problems, send me an email. Go to Autozone and "rent" an OBDII reader to make sure it will communicate.
I'm still trying to get my car to pass emissions. I bought the car out of state and it won't pass yet in CA. I got the 2nd cat replaced under warranty and thought that was it but it wasn't. Next week it goes under another round of scrutiny. Argh!

Not sure if this is the communication problem you were having, but I'll throw it out there anyway. The instructions with the OBD reader will tell you to hook it up with the power to the car completely shut down. On the 355, this will not work. The car needs to be powered up for the OBD communicator to work.

I had the exact same thing happen to me when trying to pass emissions. I used a couple of small wood screws and mounted the unit on the underside of the dash with the female part facing down so that they can plug in the reader. It is a very tight space under the dash but it can be mounted without having to go to the dealer. After I mounted mine they were able to read the emissions.
