Just performed the 4th oil change on my watch using redline 10w40 after 4 years of using Mobil 1 0w40. Not that anyone would immediately notice anything about an oil change. It is interesting how the 348 oil gauge reacts to different oils on startup. There is near zero difference between a 0w or 10w in the warm weather on oil psi with 75f weather. That is fine with me, I think everyone just wants the best oil coverage, brand to maintain their investment. In the winter, it looks like the oil shall burst from the back into your face it's so much higher.. lol. I am just glad the driving weather no longer sucks in the northeast!!

Anyway it now purrs like a kitten just above 70 at cold startup, & down to 35 or so on hot idle or lower if really hot. Wot hot is just above 70. Happy driving!

I was looking at the differenced between Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5w40 and 0w40 just today. 0w40 is pretty widely available for under $30/5 quart container. 5w40, with the little Ferrari logo on it is typically around $9.xx a quart. Both oils meet or exceed MB, Porsche, VW and Fiat requirements, but only 5w40 is recommended by Ferrari and Maserati. Both grades also meet or exceed the same API and ACEA specs. Both are recommended for gas and light duty diesel applications. The difference seems to come down to viscosity. So I used and online calculator to look at viscosity vs. temperature. As you can see, at anything above 50*C (120*F) there is really no significant difference in viscosity. Redline 10w40 has viscosities of 97@40*C and 15@100*C by comparison and the same service classification.

Assuming similar additive packages in both oils, the 0W oil is the clear choice. Multi viscosity 40W will always perform as a 40W at temperature, whether it's a 0W-40 or a 15W-40. But, as the graph you posted clearly shows, the 0W-40 oil will flow better when cold, reducing wear at startup.

Who has the best price on 0W-40 Penz?

I got two 5 quart bottles for $28.29 each, free shipping, from Wal-Mart, plus a $10/bottle rebate so about $40 including tax for 10 quarts. If I don't put it in the 355 I'll but it in the Cayman as Porsche recommends 0w40 or 5w40.

Great deal! Thanks, John. If it's still available I'm all over it. :)
