I did the first road tests of a own-design supercharger installation on my 1982 Mondial QV yesterday. The boost was stratospheric, the power delivery was very driveable - and way surpassed all my expectations!

However, I do have a few questions...

Fuel supply was sufficient at 7200rpm full throttle, but the boost was worrying: 0,70bar, i.e. 10,1 psi. Is this too much for the engine?

The NGK spark plugs stopped working properly after 20 minutes. They were old though, but I'd like to install something really good. What spark plug can other drivers of supercharged engines recommended?

Other things to look out for?

Been running 1.1 bar on a turbocharged Porsche engine for the past 12 years. Plugs used -standard copper core - whatever is on sale. I have used Delco, Autolite, Champion, Beru plugs and don't notice any difference. In fact expensive (platnium, et al) plugs are not recommended for my engine. Every now and then a newbie tries one and wonders why his engine no longer runs properly. He goes back to standard plugs which is what's recommended and engine runs properly again. A platnium plug is a particular no no on my turbocharged Porsche. Works well on NA engines though.

You're right. My spark plugs were probably ready for retirement anyway. I'll buy some NGK from superperformance and check how they perform.

Congradulations on your custom "SUPERCHARGER!!!!!!"(deserves that). I know from my own experiences how rewarding building ones own system can be. A well built and designed supercharger system once "dialed in" is almost "bulletproof".....Enjoy to the fullest....ps....easy on the transmission and clutch, horsepower has a way of "finding" weak links......Mark.

Or at least specs, centrifugal, roots, twinscrew? Still K-jetronic? Intercooler?

The compressor is centrifugal, Rotrex C30.

Pulley, spaceframe, Bosch topping etc. is custom design. All is bolt-on bolt-off, which can be done in a few hours, once installed. I have spent several weeks on 3D drawings, calculations and subsupplier communication, but the final result justifies every dime and every minute:)

The space frame is very stable - no vibrations or resonance at all. (I wonder if the components can fit inside a 308 engine bay.)

Sorry that I repeat my initial question...

Do anyone have a suggestion for a fun-yet-reliable boost pressure? 1,1Bar on a Porsche seems fine also in the long run, but what is a reasonable setting for the 3,0QV engine?

I love the push from the 0,7 bars, but I'm also a bit worried.

    /Niels

The boost is not a problem for the engine itself, Mark E was running 1.5 bar or more on a QV and had no problem. However he had EFI, there is a maximum amount of fuel the Bosch K-jet can provide, once the metering plate is full down there is no more. This was discussed in another thread about superchargers, I am in a hurry now, please search "supercharged" or "supercharger" in the 308 section of this site.

Good idea. What a great collection of knowledge on this forum! Mk E, Rviderci and many others have made a lot of excellent posts regarding Superchargeing.

Great to learn that 0,7bar is no problem at all. I'll keep the pulley, keep the boost, check the drivetrain and do more profound air/fuel measurements.

I have some very very interesting reading ahead:)

The 1.1 bars on my Porsche can only be run with higher fuel pressure. The setup was a kit that I put on the car. Kit included, among other bits and pieces, a 3 bar fuel pressure regulator to replace the 2.5 bar factory regulator. Factory boost was 0.8 bar.
