Okay...first of all, I know I said I was taking a break from F-Chat, but it's raining outside, and I am bored....

Question: What kind of experience is needed with purchasing a Ferrari for the first time? Should a first time owner take driving school lessons? Any special skills that you F-car owners have, that new owners should know about?

Just have the cash (or financing). If it's an older car, know how to drive a manual. That's about it. ~$20K for a Mondial or GT4 and you're an owner

Are you going to make it to the car show on the 4th?

I found that in my first purchase a lot of research was required to understand the car. I purchased a $250k motor home a couple of years ago and I spent a weekend looking before purchasing. This to me, the first purchase of an F-car has been much more involved and deliberate. I want to be a smart buyer but also a smart owner. I have been methodical, conservative, studied, patient and anxious. It has been a lot of fun to "hunt." Some issues I have discovered and have studied are as follows:

    Whom to purchase from
What a PPI is and how to negotiate purchase
    Waxing/Washing details
    details related to maintenance
quality of up keep and what it means
where to service and how to service
    pricing related to the market
    insurance
    how to drive/when to drive
    what to expect when driving
    where to park/how to park
    expectations on resale
    model problems/issues
    model positives/negatives
    choices/options factory or aftermarket
    convertible issues vs Berlinetta/GTS
...and a lot of other little things.

A year invested in the search and I felt comfortable in my purchase. This is what I can share with you as a first time buyer and issues I studied.

P.S. - Most of all information posted above came by way of F-chat and a couple of books from Amazon.com

    Good Luck

Gershwin nailed it. You can't do enough homework before even starting to look. It's not the purchase that will kill you, it's what happens after.
