So, my Abarth 850 is not ready for the local car show, so I am planning to take the 328 on Saturday.
My question? What should I expect? Never taken this type of car to a show, and the last time I showed a car was ten years ago when I took a 240z to a Datsun event.
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Bob

There’s going to be lots of onlookers at your car and you will see all kinds of people drools while looking at your car and be prepared to answer questions which some might be related to Magnum PI. Have fun at the show and post some pics. :)

I find that people want to dream. I answer questions like "how fast does it go?" with replies like "well, the speedometer goes to 160 mph, but I've never done near that." I don't crack the Camry joke. I do now answer the "how much does it cost?" question, which I used to avoid. My reply is that "Hagerty shows a range, from $40k for a driver and over $100k for a concours car." I couldn't figure out a polite non-reply. I don't answer how much I paid.

I find that many people want to ask questions but are never sure who the owner is. I try to approach people who are lingering with a freindly question to start the conversation. You're call, but I usually invite people to sit inside if they want.

The amount of attention depends on the types of cars at the show. If there are a lot of older Ferraris you'll get less, but the 3x8 always attracts lookers.

Other than Cars & Coffee I've only taken my 308 to Italian car shows so maybe a different crowd because I've never gotten any Magnum questions. Seems like there are always at least two guys though that tell me a story of how they used to have one just like it, sold it and wish they hadn't.

For extra fun, give people a blank look and ask them "who is Magnum...?"

    OK,
I survived the first show with the car! Besides for finding a cracked fog light when I was getting it ready ( see other post ), it was a nice weekend. Lot's of questions, six Magnum questions, no questions about what it cost or worth. One guy who had a 308 came by and showed me a picture. The best part was the kids, as it may of been the first time some kids got that close to a Ferrari, so that made it worth while.
I will say, I did forget chairs, so that was the big mistake. The car was not perfectly clean, as I do use it, and did not not have time to give it a full detail, but it was presentable. The funny thing was, I took the Abarth 124 with me, and so many people had no idea what it was. I heard guys telling the girlfriends/wifes... Look, it's a Ferrari, a Alfa, and even had a 10year boy tell his parents what it was...... a Fiat....... All in all, a nice day. I was surrounded by old American cars, with only five foreign cars, and I had two of them. So maybe not the best place for a 30 year old Ferrari, but I did have some folks thank me for bringing it out. Damn! That is a great way to answer those questions... which I will do from now on! Thanks!
