I'm curious if anyone knows, for certain, which Grand Prix circuit, past or present, was the first one to install garages immediately adjacent to the pit stalls, as is the current norm.

I remember that up through 1986 in Montreal, the "garages" that were used had actually first been built as part of the Olympic rowing basin, which ran parallel to what became the GP circuit, and were some distance from the pits. When an entirely new pit complex was built, at the other end of the circuit, for the 1988 race, the garages were now adjacent to the pits, and that arrangement still exists today.

But I'm pretty sure that Montreal was not the first circuit with that arrangement. Does anyone know which one was? And when?
