Hi all: I would like to connect with any forum members who have firsthand experience importing a european 550. I am well acquainted with the 25 year rule, and understand that the most expedient course of action is to simply wait until a car is 25 years old to bring it over to the states. In my case, I am interested in a late production 550 in a very particular spec and would like to get an idea of the cost of federalizing rather than waiting the two years necessary to bring the car over under the 25 year rule.

Any advice or insights you have to offer regarding the time and cost involved in federalizing a 550 would be much appreciated, thanks.

    I’ll eagerly await the responses.
At least you don’t have to deal with a “double” unless you want to….meaning federalization and then having the shop CARB certify at the same time (unless someone here knows if it’s just a small piece on top of federalization).

You must want something very special (that’s my kind of hunt)!

Thank you for your reply. I’ve had the same experience, and it’s very frustrating because I can’t seem to get a consistent answer regarding cost or the timeline.
