Fisichella believes penalty was too harsh
    26 June 2006 / Results / Photos
Giancarlo Fisichella began Sunday's Canadian Grand Prix with an unfortunate mistake. The Renault driver moved his car before the red lights turned off and was penalised by the Stewards for jumping the start. Fisichella admits he made a mistake, but the penalty was too harsh.

"Yes, I made a mistake, but I immediately knew I was wrong so I let Raikkonen overtake me," Fisichella told Gazzetta dello Sport. "I thought that would be enough as a penalty but they still gave me a drive-through penalty. Maybe they should see if changes are needed in the regulations for these kind of situations."

Fisichella believes he could have done better than finish in fourth. "It is difficult to keep up your page when you're behind several other cars. The cars in front of me were slowing me down and apart from that I made a few errors too. It's really unfortunate because I believe I could have been fighting for the podium"

That's why Renault/Pat Symmonds called him "the backbone" of the team as opposed to the #1 driver.
