The steering rack on my 355 Spider is going to be replaced free of charge by the franchised dealer I bought it from. But I'm thinking that I should get them to fit the Challenge/Fiorano steering rack instead of the standard one.

    I have some questions:

Does the Challenge rack cost the same as the standard one?

Do any other components have to be replaced in order to fit the Challenge rack? If so how much do they cost and what's the additional labour time to fit them?

Is the Challenge rack the same as the rack fitted as part of the Fiorano pack?

I don't know if it's the same as the Fiorano package, but I do know that the power steering pump must be changed too.

i don't know the answer to ALL your questions, but I do know this. The '98 challenge rack (which is the one that's different) is 1/4 turn lock to lock less!

if you're changing it anyway, sure, do it. if not, i believe it would be a waste of money.

Last challenge rack we replaced in a challenge car was four years ago and it was $3086.82 from FNA. Who knows what it is now, but even then, the supply was very low, and I believe we got the last one in the states at the time.

It is not the same as stock, and if I remember correctly, the challenge conversion kit also had a different steering pump.

    Thanks for the information.

Anyone know why the Challenge rack needs a different pump? That surprises me if the only difference is the ratio.

What type of car is a 'Challenge conversion kit' made for?

I read somewhere on here that the Challenge/Fiorano rack is 2.8 turns lock to lock whereas the normal one is 3.2. I'm not sure if those figures are correct.
