Just received my new Capristo Level 2 for my 360 spider. Has anybody fitted one themselves? I have read an excellent thread on here about removing the rear bumper etc. My dealer spoke about a heat deflector required to protect the rear bumper. Is there already one fitted to the car, or is this something missing from my shipment? Has anybody shimmed the tail pipes to get the best clearance out of the rear bumper? Anything else I should know. It looks a great piece of kit, the welds are tidy and its a great shape. Had it not been a spider I might have gone Level 3, I'll let you know how I get on.

As i removed rear bumper few days ago, there are already heat deflectors sticked on the rear bumper, so you will not need it. At least on my car :)) Good luck with the fitting.

Andy...i dont know if the the UK cars have 02 sensors on them, right after cats. But if they do!!! You must massage the new exhaust so it will slide further into that part. That is to say you MUST have at least 3/4 inch clearance from the actuall muffler canister to the rear support bracket where the latch for rear deck lid is.

Trust me!!! the exhaust canister will creep back when hot (it expands) and rub on that support giving you an annoying vibration thruout the car.

    best of luck!!

    You chose wisely my son.....

Don't be too quick to sell your stock exhaust. If for some reason you should want an option, at the flick of a switch, to have your exhaust system be quieter....you can take the bypass valves off your stock pipes and have them grafted onto your capristo pipes (the inner pipes). I think you'll be fine with the stage-2 and the only potential problem you may have is a drone, when the top is down, around 1,800-2,700 rpms...but again, the stage-2 is a good choice on a spider! :)

Installation is straight-forward, just be careful putting the bumper on & off and take your time getting the pipes in the right position. Beyond that, enjoy!

    Steve,
I'll bear that in mind about the valves thanks.

So last night I answered most of my questions when I removed the standard system. I followed the instructions as detailed on Warrens thread ( http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=57983 ) and they were first class. I needed to drive my rear wheels onto some wood to get the trolley jack under the car - there is no more than 4" to play with.

I could not find any wire harnesses to unclip from the rear bumper, other than the numberplate light. Perhaps someone had been in here before but it did not look like it.

There are plenty of heat shields fitted in there. The above link seemed to have a photo of a heat shield located on top of the gear box, I did not have one of these so I'll need to check that out.

On one side (driver rhd) I removed a heat shield via the gravel guards to get at the 2 large 19mm bolts holding on the bumper, on the other side I came down from the top after removing one of the panels. This seemed easier, but may prove more problematic when I try to put it back together.

The clamps holding the exhaust to the cats were very tough. Even with penetrating fluid they were tough.

I can see that re-fitting the rear bumper will be a bit of a challange. There is a lot to be aligned, ie both sides and the base simoultaneously. I look forward to that.

Only one question raised last night, when I removed the rear wheels by removing the 5 studs, there is what looks like a locating dowel fitted inside each wheel. I could not figure out what it was for, does the wheel only refit at one clock position or is this for some other wizardry. Anybody know?

Hopefully get the Capristo fitted and everything bolted back up later in the week. These cars are nice to work on. Only one skinned knuckle so far (exhaust clamp).
I'll let you know how I get on.
