My pod looks just like yours I bet they are warped.
Why would our cars have 308 pods?

Pete, looks like almost a carbon copy so yes, you're probably right. Just really weird how that could happen. Clearly mine like other 348s is considerably older but is perfect shape which is why I asked about temp. Maybe like you say, just a bad batch of pods in there somewhere? Anyway, Ketel's possibly right, easier to replace than try to remould......

Maybe instead of the leather pulling off the pod the leather is collapsing the pod as it shrinks and causes it to pucker up like that.

Having experienced a similar occurrence in a 1986 930 Turbo Porsche this is dead on. The '86 Turbo came with the full leather interior as standard and included the dash. Mine began to pull up at the base of the windshield in the middle and Porsche was willing to replace under warranty but only with a standard vinyl dash because they were having a rash of similar claims. I wanted to keep my original so I did try to correct it by rigging a 2x4 cut to fit between the rear package shelf and the dash at the base of the windshield with 120 lbs of barbell weight hanging from the wood. I soaked the leather in neatsfoot oil for the best part of a month to soften the leather and it didn't budge a fraction. I just put a dash cover on the dash while driving out in the sun to keep it from pulling further and put up with the problem until I sold the car (to buy a Ferrari :) ).

Interesting. Also interesting that I've not seen this happen on a 348 - their dashes and instrument pod are in fact covered in vinyl. Maybe that's why.
