A few weeks ago, my new (to me) 16M developed an annoying front crank seal oil leak. It was quite mysterious. It did not leak a drop while running. The serpentine drive belt stayed completely dry. However, it would leak while stationary, dripping down the front cover of the block, and onto the rear undertray, eventually making it onto the floor and leaving a huge mess of the undertray. I could not live with this. I called Algar Ferrari, and at first was told that the seal had to be installed from the inside of the front cover. I knew this to be incorrect as I had seen the photo posts from Universal Autosports that clearly showed the seal installed from the front of the cover behind the crankshaft damper. After further consultation with Algar, they quoted me $1100 for the repair, which I thought was quite high. I then contacted Cantech Automotive near me in Syracuse, New York. They service many local Ferraris. The only question that we had was if the repair could be accomplished with the engine in place. Rocco from Cantech assured me that it could be done without removing the engine. He was absolutely correct. They were able to replace the seal and the single-use stretch bolt for $440. Problem solved. It has been two weeks now, and no more leak. Five stars for Cantech. A quality operation.
