Ahhhh Bruce did you see the "stretch" Bonneville timecar were making at shop where the V12 goes in the back instead of the small V8? We may have an extra 12 laying around in the junk pile
I really like that looks great Bruce the wider fenders, stacks in the back with a wing will look total bad ass reto chaparral like. All in per portion. They way it should have been. The 348 is a perfect candidate for that
It's Bruce's decision and there is plenty of time for him to consider all sorts of options, even to reconsider keeping it. Possibly explore selling off the '89 for parts to maximize total cash for another purchase. Me, I wouldn't own a salvage title car unless I was going to keep it forever and I am never sure that I want to keep any car that long, even my SS. Still Bruce's choice. I want him to get a 2.7 model. But honestly, if you hotrod a '89 you're gonna drop the ole 2.5 for Motec or something else anyway. Just keep your greasy mits off that race car as a donor for your schemes! Crap we're already down a wing. This would be a great opportunity to go hog wild with the car. What if insurance offered you $25K and your car back and you knew fixing it was a whole lot less? After repairs, there's plenty of money to spend on the kind of madness we just BS about in these forums. Valve job, headers, engine management, forced induction, trottle bodies, only limited by imagination and bucks. Okay, to answer Bruce's question without judging the riteousness of his decision: I'd go CanAm style with as much 358-ness as you could muster. Lose the strakes for scoops. Challenge rear end. Aerodynamic rear diffusers. Lexan windows and covered headlamp buckets. Lighten it up as much as possible but retain streetness and some comfort. TB's and stacks with air drawn from scoops through the C pillars, but don't clutter up the roof line. Brake cooling ducts front and back. CF wing, not that heavy aluminum one we had on the race car. Also, I'd have the removable top scraped smooth and painted in body color to give the appearance of the TB you always wanted.
Way to go Bruce! I think once you decide the direction you want to go, you should have several Stooge Days where we can all help you with the project and make it an FCHAT 348. Just holler when you need some help, I'm just up the freeway... Henry
No more ideas? No snorkel? No F40 wing? No stripes? No flames? No Hello Kitty? C;mon let's see some photoshop skills!
Bruce, I think it might be cool to go the Ultra lightweight with a hot Rod motor route. Very much like all the 911 Porsche guys (including me) are doing. You could get nutty with weight reduction and either hotrod the 355 engine or install a 360 or 430 challenge crate motor. Maybe add a wing or maybe not..I'd keep it light and very subtle rather than go all "boy racer" with it. Think Mangus Walker-ish.
No photo shop needed. you can turn it into this with the stroke of a pen.......well the stroke of your insurance adjusters pen Big brake kit all around....hmmm, hmmm. Tubi....Hmmm, hmmm. Performance ECU's....Hmmm, hmmm. She's just what you need and she's only one state away. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Jon, that has always been a nice car and it's nice to see it still very much is. I can't wait to see it in person in few weeks.
Ok, just because you asked. Horrible Photoshop delivered! Based on the Enzo mule, stretch the rear quarters. Sell the V8, drop in a V12 with a twin turbo setup, add roof mounted intake for the intercooler. Get a 6 speed / 3 pedal to keep it fun. I call it the Ferrari "Limb"orghini. Yes Bruce, Stop by and look at this project, very simular All in stock ready for you Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Seriously? That's awesome! Here, have some engine porn. That's 1,000 HP worth right there. Twin turbo V12 from a 550. You know what you must do. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Fix the dents, make molds, do it all in carbon fibre with clear. Then you will be part of the black color group. Ha ha. No matter what you do I know you will love it all the more especially the before and after pics.
Here is an idea Bruce: Restore it to original. Ok, I'm boring but I think Ferrari is best as Ferrari. Anything ordinary can be modified...
I like a lot of those ideas except if your going that far install the f1 from the 355 Plus then you can get a custom badge 348f1 or 438 f1 Or as previously stated 550 quatrovavole TT F1 except you will need to widen it 6inches to fit all on the back.
Bruce, It takes a long time just to get the car apart. have you started dismantling it yet? Can you post up more pics of the damage? That might give clues as to what might be done easy. For example if the roof/B piller is damaged then that's easy conversion to a speedster or barchetta concept. A crushed door might lead one to use 355 door panels over strakes. If fenders are damaged it is a good time to think about flaring them for bigger rubber if you have to fix them anyway. Dave has the drawings and one of the centerlock hubs. Big fat wheels and centerlocks! You need that.
I haven't started disassembly yet. More pics below. Fortunately the damage is confined to the sheet metal, so it's superficial. The car is quite driveable, so if you see a 348 rat rod in the neighborhood, it's me. Gonna keep strakes, it's a 348! Flares possible, but remember the current wheels are 11.5" wide and don't rub. I like the look very much of flares. Gonna do a full repaint, might as well do (at least) major service, so pretty much full disassembly required. Gotta generate some garage space for the upcoming project, so I hope to find a temporary spot for the race car nearby, maybe in PS near a track???? I forsee a danger ahead of it getting out of hand considering state of disassembly. Note expert job of reassembling parts of taillights. If you catch me painting a-arms, slap me!
